Cartoon Analysis

The media has become a big chunk of the lives of us individuals. It is the means of
communication, whether it may be in the form of: radio, television, newspapers, magazines, and
the internet. One of the main roles of media is to provide convenience to us, people, for us to
communicate effectively and easily despite the distance between us.
The illustration above portrays the addiction of the people to the fame, popularity, and
validation in media, through the forms of likes, comments, reacts, and shares. The people
became thirsty to become first in experiencing and sharing things and experiences. The clout has
become a priority and a goal to us. If you are the first one to share a certain story, you will be the
one to be credited and will most probably gain the most attention.
The mindset of the people has molded into the thinking of having a grand life in media is
better than reality. It has become a priority to provide content to our audience in our platforms.
Just like what is shown, it is better to have the clout that having to save someone in real life.
Given that there are numbers of them present in the situation, their goal is who can upload the
fastest rather than who can help the person drowning first.
I agree to what the picture is trying to show. Even I, experience what is shown in
real life. Just like in concerts, it is far more important for some people to upload videos and
pictures from the concerts the soonest they can rather than enjoying and living the moment. Just
like in the picture, it is more important for the people to capture what is happening in front of
them than to act what is needed and what is right.
You can also observe how the people are subtly wearing the same outfit that looks like
prison clothes, just without the “P” sign. I think that it shows how we are unable to notice how
we are chained to our phones or to the media.
