COURSE TITLE: C 211 MSN

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to further develop nursing advanced knowledge with an emphasis on disease processes and nursing management. with
application of the nursing process to the care of adult patients experiencing medical and surgical conditions in the health illness continuum. A variety of health care settings are
utilized in meeting the complex medical and surgical health care needs of adult clients. Prototype health states, including wellness, are discussed with emphasis on associated nursing
diagnosis and application of professional standards of care.

COURSE CREDIT: 3 units

CONTACT HOURS: 3 hours lecture/week (54 hours lecture/sem)

PREREQUISITES:

PLACEMENT: 1st sem, SY 2019-2020

COURSE OUTCOMES: At the end of the course the student will


1. Utilize innovative-creative teaching strategies for the presentation and discussion of various topics on adults and older adults with selected common health problems
2. Demonstrate critical thinking and evidenced based practice in providing and interpreting selected advanced practice nursing diagnostic skills and procedures.
3. Promote factors that create a culture of safety and caring for clients from diverse populations.
4. Recognize common disease processes, medication administration and other therapies and treatments for the medical/surgical adult and older adult clients.
5. Organize appropriate diagnoses and differential diagnoses in a given case scenario based on analysis and interpretation of the history, presenting symptoms, physical
findings, and diagnostic information for adults with selected common health problems
6. Describe ethical and legal principles impacting health care for adults, including informed consent, diminished autonomy, individual freedom of choice, and confidentiality.
7. Design a plan for illness prevention and treatment, wellness promotion, and health problem management based on current scientific rationale and research, evidence-
based practice guidelines and standards of care for adults with selected common health problems
8. Demonstrate understanding of implementing aspects of the plan of care within legal, ethical, and regulatory parameters and in consideration of client factors.
