UPLB Zoology professor Dr. Blesshe Querijero took 4 students from her Zoology 185 class to visit a village in Bay, Laguna known for its tilapia fingerling production. The students observed large ponds managed for aquaculture. They saw firsthand how farmer Kuya Henry Ignacio catches fingerlings using a large circular net and feeds the breeders. The professor gave a lecture covering tilapia breeding, marketing, feed quality, and finding passion in aquaculture. The field trip provided the students a hands-on look at aquaculture techniques and their professor's interest in their engagement with the topic.

MARINE ZOOLOGY PROF IN UPLB SHARES TIPS AND
SECRETS IN AQUA CULTURE. Last August 21, 2012 Wednesday, UPLB Aquaculture Professor Doctor Blesshe L. Querijero invites her four students in Zoology 185 to come visit a Baranggay in Bay, Laguna. In here the class was able to see firsthand the techniques used by Kuya Henry Ignacio. Kuya Henry was the one who catches the Tilapia fingerlings in the morning and makes sure that the Tilapia Breeders will be able to eat its feeds in the morning and afternoon. As you can see in the picture Kuya Henry has this big circular blue net which he uses to catch the fingerlings. He circles the edges of the pond as it is where the Tilapia brooders releases their fingerlings. And while that is happening, Prof. Querijero gives lecture on her students tackling about the management of the breeders to the marketing of the fingerlings to the way how to choose a good quality feeds and how to find joy and passion to this kind of job. Through this, the students learned that their professor genuinely wants her students to find joy and interest in Aqua culture!
