I. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE:

I.1 Rationale/Justification:

Biodiversity provides humans with a great range of ecosystemic services; it is

therefore an indispensable resource and a legacy to coming generations. However, in
the last decades, the increasing exploitation of the Planet has caused a great loss of
biodiversity and its acquaintance has decreased remarkably; especially in urbanized
areas, due to the decreasing attachment of humans to nature. One of the effects of
anexponentially increasing human population growth is the loss of other species.
Biodiversity or the variety of species and life has been decreasing due to human
actions. Other reasons that contribute to the loss of biodiversity are habitat loss and
degradation, invasive species, pollution, climate change, and overexploitation. The
biodiversity crisis is something worth countering because of the economic benefits
and the environmental services biodiversity provides.
As an eco-friendly school, it is critical for students of the university to learn about
biodiversity and the harmful effects of climate change to the ecosystem. It is our duty
to preserve the natural habitat of wildlife as well as educate the youth about the
importance of maintaining biodiversity through sharing knowledge of various animal
shelters and reservoirs that are spread throughout Zamboanga City and our nation. As
a result, students will be more equipped with the knowledge of preserving the
environment as well as know the importance of biodiversity in our daily lives.
The university believes that educating the students about the importance of
biodiversity through the biodiversity awareness seminar is the first step in
eradicating the threats present in today’s environmental crisis. As a school that
promotes a green environment, the practice of giving importance for the
ecosystem must start within the school and the students themselves. Further,
biodiversity awareness will help improve the state of the environment and
promote a better conduct for students.

I.2 Objectives
The goal of this event is to educate students of the university about the importance
of biodiversity in our everyday lives. Moreover, it encourages students to participate
in preserving the natural habitat of animals.

The topics also aim to specifically, by the end of the 1-day session, participants can:

a) Understand and share the concept of Biodiversity to students of the

university.
b) Educate students about the different protected areas and animal behaviors
and interactions that show biodiversity.
c) Transform students into environmentally mindful individuals who can
contribute to preserving the natural habitat of animals towards an eco-
friendlier University.

Biodiversity Acrylic Painting Contest

The Biodiversity Acrylic Painting Contest was created for the students of Cabaluay
National High School to exhibit their artistic talents through creating portraits of
Biodiversity. Participants were able to create paintings about their own understanding
of biodiversity. This activity boasts the creative skills of students as well as reminding
them of the Importance of Biodiversity through awareness.

The activity was hosted by Mrs. Marilyn P. Concepcion, AEMSHS-CES Club

Adviser together with the AEMSHS-CES Club.

I. Rationale/Background
The CES Tutorial for elementary students in Cabaluay Elementary School
provides support and strengthens students' competency in Mathematics, Science
and Reading Comprehension before the National Achievement Test. A study is
also conducted to assess the effects of the CES tutorial on students' learning
abilities by providing pre and post-tests. Hence, the tutorial was conducted both as
an activity and to collect research data for the benefit of the students in Cabaluay
Elementary School. The utmost goal of this activity is to improve the performance
of the elementary students in Mathematics, Science and Reading.

1.2 Objectives
Our primary tutoring objective is for our students to achieve the following outcomes:
 The tutoring program aims to supplement lectures that expands the knowledge
in the primary lessons in math and science, through activities and
demonstration.
 Expand their toolbox of methods to solve, analyze and conclude answers for
the problem.
 The tutors will be able to apply the sense and the adapt teaching methods
accordingly to the students’ learning pace.
 Create a fun and loving environment to encourage the students to do well, and
give a fun and enjoyable experience as well.
1.3 Implementation of Date/Schedule

AEMSHS-CES NAT review for Grade 6 Students program were conducted on the
dates, February 7 and 21, 2020, March 06, 20020 at Cabaluay Elementary School,
Maria Clara Lobregat Highway, Zamboanga City.

II Process and Activities:

A pre-test is given to the students to understand how much they know in the fields of
math and science. The program needs understand the effectivity of the system of
tutoring the students, to identify which factors greatly decrease or increase the test
results of the students, that aligns itself to the objective o the program. After the whole
program is done, a post-test will be given to the students.
The AEMSHS- CES Tutoring Program started on February 7, 2020 at Cabaluay
national School.
The participants and the staff arrived at the school at 1:00 pm. The principal of the
school, Ms. Ma. Rizalina A. Saavedra, welcomed the CES staffs and showed the
classrooms assigned for tutoring. There was a total of three classrooms (3) filled eager
and enthusiastic students waiting to learn.
