Brgy. Daga, Cadiz City
VIII. NARRATIVE
On August 31, 2019, the Association of Social Science Major Students in partnership
with the PED. 07: The Teacher and the School Curriculum, Bachelor of Social
Science Education and Bachelor in Physical and Health Education students conducted
a Mangrove Planting and Coastal Clean Up activity to the adopted barangay which is
in Brgy. Daga. The activity started at 6:30 in the morning at Purok Kakahuyan.
Before doing the activity, Professor Ma. Wenna Fernandez, gave some instructions on
what to do before, during, and after the event. Professor Mayflor Sentina,
spearheaded the activity by building connection in a manner of asking the ASSMS
and the PEMS what to feel and to relate what was happening in the present. This
strong sense of connection to the environment made them feel that protecting
environment is essential. Before the mangrove was planted, everyone gave their
prayer that serves as the foundation of the mangroves to be strong enough to fight
against waves. Everyone was asked to give their insights after planting the mangrove,
some emotionally shared their insight while some shared their stories.
Coastal clean-up was followed after the planting of mangroves. It took 1 hour of
cleaning the coastal area of Prk. Kakahuyan. Trough collective efforts, they collected
around 8 sacks of garbage. At around 8:00 in the morning, the Coastal clean-up and
Mangrove planting of the ASSMS together PEMS ended.
