Measures to be Performed by the Operator

The regulations applicable to the place of operation must be adhered to. The operation of the machine is in any case subject to the local safety regulations and
instructions for the prevention of accidents.
Before putting the machine into operation make sure that nobody might be endangered by operation of the machine! Machine components might automatically
restart when the machine is restarted!
The crane operator must at all times be able to see the working area and the load! Ensure adequate lighting in conditions of poor sight and darkness.
Do nor stand or work under suspended loads!
Avoid any safety-compromising working!
Examine the machine at least once per shift to make sure it is exempt from damages or defects! Notify the responsible post/person of any occurred abnormality
(including abnormal operating behaviour)! Immediately shut down and secure the machine if necessary! Remedy any failure immediately!

Measures for the Maintenance, Servicing and Repair

Observe the adjustment, maintenance and inspection tasks and schedules, including details concerning the replacement of parts and equipment prescribed in
the operating manual! These tasks may only be performed by specialized personnel.
Inform the operations personnel before commencing maintenance and servicing work! Designate a supervisory person.
The shutdown instructions according to the operating instructions must be adhered to during any work referring to assembly/disassembly, putting into operation,
operation, maintenance and repair.
Carry out repair work on the hydraulic and electric system in a clean and dust-free environment.
If necessary, secure the work area!
Before carrying out any maintenance or repair work completely shut down the machine and protect it against any unauthorized restart:
- Unplug electric plug-in connector.
Remove protective equipment only after the machine has been shut down!
Carefully fasten and secure spare parts and modules being replaced to the lifting gear so that they do not endanger anyone. Use only suitable and technically
perfect lifting gear and load carrying equipment with adequate carrying capacity!
Do not stand or work under suspended loads!
If necessary, use security-conform ladders and work platforms for installation and servicing work! Do not use machine parts as steps! Wear fall-prevention gear
for work performed at height.
Because contact with hot parts and the discharge of oil during maintenance and servicing work cannot be excluded, always wear protective glasses and
protective gloves.
Clean electric components in voltage-free state only. Unplug electric plug-in connector for this purpose. This regulation also applies to non-touch cleaning (air-
blasting).

Operation Version 13/01/24
During grab operation, the driving motor 27 is always running with rated speed, while the turbo coupling 17 is
entirely absorbing the slip which is necessary for cable drums. Turbo coupling and electric motor are designed
for 100 percent continuous running.

ATTENTION! Do not synchronize with hoisting and lowering the grab.

The driving shaft of the turbo coupling is constantly running at the motor's rated speed. The driven shaft of the
turbo coupling transmits the torque to the drum body via spur gear and this in the same rotation sense as the
cable is winding up. When the cable is unwinding, the driven shaft of the turbo coupling is running in the
rotation sense opposite to the driving motor and the driving shaft of the turbo coupling.

Operation of brake
The solenoid-operated spring pressure brake prevents the rope from winding off when motor is turned off. The
brake is to be synchronized with the motor. When starting the motor, the springloaded disk is lifted from the
brake disk and the brake is released. When cutting off the circuit, the springloaded disk is pressed towards the
brake disk and the brake is put on.

ATTENTION! The braking is to be adjusted in a way that no rope can wind off by itself, if the equipment is out
of operation. On the other hand, the adjustment shall allow the drum body to be turned manually, if the motor is
turned off.

Operation
During grab operation, the driving motor 07 is always running with rated speed, while the turbo coupling
05 is entirely absorbing the slip which is necessary for rope drums. Turbo coupling and electric motor
are designed for 100 percent continuous running.
The nominal current consumption, while the cable is under tension is: 4,6A

ATTENTION! Do not synchronize with hoisting and lowering the grab.

The driving shaft of the turbo coupling is constantly running at the motor's rated speed. The driven shaft
of the turbo coupling transmits the torque to the drum body via spur gear and this in the same rotation
sense as the cable is winding up. When the cable is unwinding, the driven shaft of the turbo coupling is
running in the rotation sense opposite to the driving motor and the driving shaft of the turbo coupling.

a) Connecting the rope to be wound up

Introduce the untwisted rope through the interior of the drum body and fasten it by strain-relief clamp.
Before winding up the rope, adding 2 safety windings.

ATTENTION! Do not wind up rope when brake is not released.

b) Operation of brake
The solenoid-operated spring pressure brake prevents the rope from winding off when motor is turned
off. The brake is to be synchronized with the motor. When starting the motor, the springloaded disk is
lifted from the brake disk and the brake is released. When cutting off the circuit, the springloaded disk is
pressed towards the brake disk and the brake is put on.

ATTENTION! The braking is to be adjusted in a way that no rope can wind off by itself, if the equipment
is out of operation. On the other hand, the adjustment shall allow the drum body to be turned manually,
if the motor is turned off.

2.1 Operation
For cable drums of our design, which are driven by electric motors, the built-in turbo coupling absorbs the 100% slip, which is
necessary for drum drives.
From the motor to the drum, it transmits a torque with the same sense in which the cable is being wound up.
During operation the driving motor and the primary section of the coupling are continously running with the rated motor speed with
one sense of rotation.
The secondary section of the turbo coupling is stopped when the drum remains stationary, or when it is pulled in both directions
during winding off or up of the cable. Thanks to the aforementioned mode of function, a standard a. c. squirrelcage motor can be
used.
Since the coupling needs a certain temperature for developing a constant torque, the drive motor must remain switched on during the
whole time of operation. It must neither be synchronized with the travelling nor with the hoisting unit.

2.2 Quality of the oil

For the hydraulic power transmission by means of turbo couplings used for cable drums, the quality of the oil is of particular
importance. The hydraulic oil filled into the coupling is Shell Morlina (Shell Tellus) C 22 ISO-VG-22 22 cSt / 40 °C; 4,3 cSt / 100 °C.
Quantity for coupling 274: min 1,9 liter; max. 2,10 liter

2.3 Oil temperature and protection against thermal overload

The turbo couplings are protected against overheating by built-in fuse screws, item no. 2. The protection is necessary to avoid
any inadmissibly high interior pressure, any damage to the (Perbunan) sealing rings and a premature ageing of the oil.
Besides, this secure limitation of the maximum termperature of the coupling permits its employment in rooms with an explosion
hazard as well as in mines.
The oil temperature in the coupling shall not exceed 85 - 90 °C during operation. The temperature depends on the quantity of oil that
has been filled in. The larger the quantity of oil, the higher the temperature will rise.
At approx. 140 °C the metal of the fuse screw will melt and the oil is being drained.
If too little oil has been filled in, the most favourable temperature will never be reached.
Because the air volume in the interior is too big so that the oil starts to foam, and thus a secure torque transmission cannot be
guaranteed.
After a few minutes of operation, the most favourable oil temperature is reached, the ambient temperature is not really important. In
winter, at freezing temperatures, the oil filling should never fall short of the minimum quantity, since otherwise the winding up
operation cannot be properly performed.

2.4 Regulation of the electro cable pull
The electro cable pull can be increased by refilling of oil, and reduced by taking out some oil. The alternation of the oil quantity is only
permitted within the maximum-minimum-limits, indicated under 2.2. Even rather small differences in the oil filling beyond the indicated
scope, cause great variations of the pulling force.
The couplings we built in, have already been adjusted in our works with regard to the rubber cable put on by the clients. It is
recommended not to exceed the electro cable pull we indicated on the nameplate.
When refilling oil beyond the maximum limit the current consumption of the electric motor has to be checked in any case. The current
consumption at idle run, with stationary drum, must not be higher than the rated current.
If the coupling slackens with regard to the pulling force, the quantity of oil has to be checked. For this purpose the total oil quantity is
to be drained.
In order to empty the chambers by centrifugating, the coupling is switched on for a short period, after having unscrewed the oil filler
screw, item 1, and the fuse screw, item 2. Only then new oil is refilled with a measuring cup, the quantity remaining within the
indicated limits.

2.5 Trouble, due to non-observance of the prescribed oil quantity

2.5.1 Too much oil

The oil temperature rises. At approx. 140°the metal of the fuse screw melts; the oil is being drained.
Trouble shooting:
The oil is drained as described under 2.4, after having unscrewed the oil filler screw and the fuse screw, then remove all the oil by
short-term centrifugating. Then a new fuse screw is set and the indicated quantity of oil is refilled. By an excessive oil filling or by too
high a temperature the shaft seal may have been damaged. In such a case the turbo coupling has to be exchanged and the
damaged one has to be sent to our workshop. When too much oil was filled-in, the electric motor too is overcharged, the current
consumption rises and actuates the protective motor switch.

2.5.1 Too little oil

As described under 2.3 the oil will foam excessively. The proper torque transmission is not guaranteed, the pulling force indicated in
kg on the nameplate of the drum, will not be reached. As a result of this, troubles may occur during the winding up of the electrical
cable.
Trouble shooting:
The oil is drained and the indicated maximum-minimum-amount is refilled.

Electrical short description
Page no. 45
Version 13/01/24
Employed wiring diagram: 23079500
The cable and rope drum are driven by the motors M2 resp. M3.
Rectifiers for the fixing brakes are installed in the terminal boxes of the motors and they are clamped parallel to
the motors. Therefore, the braking coils are switched on and the fixing brakes are aerated (released)
simultaneously to the motor being switched on by means of the reversing switches S2 and S3.
For reeling off of cable and rope for the sake of preparing the grab operation, the motors can be switched on by
respective actuation of the reversing switches for a short time in reeling off direction.
During grab operation, the drum motors shall always be running in pull direction and must not be switched on, off
or over synchronously with hoisting and lowering the grab.
The turbo couplings are entirely absorbing the slip, even when the cable or the rope are unwinding opposite to the
pull direction of the motors.
The grab motor works by reversing system and is switched on by the reversing contactors K1 and K2.
The timing relays K01 and K02 prevent a direct reversing of the reversing contactors and therefore the grab
motor. In manual operation, repeated starting in the same rotary direction is possible without delay.
The combination switch for the control of the grab contains a selector switch S1.1, a joystick S1.3 as well as an
additional switch S1.2 and a signal lamp H1.
The operating modes "manual", "off" and "semi-automatic" are being changed over by means of the selector
switch S1.1.
The timing relays K03 - K05 are equally active in manual and semi-automatic operation. However, in manual
operation they are only effective when the joystick is continuously activated longer than the set times of the
relays.
The joystick can be used for manual control as well as for starting the automatic operation.
In both cases the joystick must be moved in the direction desired respectively (open grab or closed grab) and
pressed down in order to activate the additional switch S1.2.
As an alternative to the control in semi-automatic operation, the foot pedal switch S4 can be employed, in this
case the additional switch S1.2 does not have to be activated.
The signal lamp H1 indicates to the crane operator that the grab must be lifted out of the bulk material during the
closing procedure. The signal lamp H1 is switched on by the timing relay K05 after the set theoretical closing time
of the grab has passed.
In most cases the real closing time of the grab in the bulk material will differ from the theoretical closing time.
Therefore, the timing relay K03 for the operating time of the motor during closing is set to approx. 8 seconds
longer than the timing relay K05. This shall guarantee complete closing of the grab with just one start of the motor.

In order to reach complete closing of the grab when very heavy bulk material is being handled, the timing relay
K03 is adjustable up to a period of time amounting to 30 seconds.

The adjustment of the timing relay K04 for the running time of the motor during the opening period can be carried
out according tot the real opening time.

In semi automatic operation the closing and opening procedures can only be started alternately. If an already
completed closing respectively opening procedure shall be started again, the selector switch must have been
switched to "off" beforehand.
When the selector switch is switched to "off" position, the control of the grab can also be switched off during
automatic procedures taking place at that time.

Part No: 0000029547 Description: reversing switch TWG 16
Application: Grab accessories -> cable drum, rope drum
Purpose: avoiding damage of reversing switch for rope and cable drum
In almost all cases, damaged reversing switches are not a material problem but the result of recurring wrong operation.

Just 3 different positions can be correct: PULL / 0 / LOWER

It is very important that lever is snapping into one of these three positions – depending on requested function. NEVER try to slow down speed
of drum by moving the lever between such different positions.
Any other position between the indexed positions will cause spark overs and burning contacts inside the switch.

a) Brushholders and sliprings
The brushholders and sliprings are subject to normal wear. They must be replaced when necessary. Always make certain, that
the sliprings are clean at all times, and that there is no deposit of carbon dust on them (flashing might occur). The electrical
connection to motor, brake relief and brake must be done by experienced and qualified electricians only. In
accordance to relevant regulations by qualified electricians.

b) Narrow V-belt
The narrow V-belt is to be readjusted, if necessary. The correct tension is checked by pressing a finger on the belt. If well
adjusted, the V-belt should bend by the thickness of a finger.

c) Solenoid-operated spring pressure brake

The brake should be checked for its proper function in regular intervals. When the brake lining should be changed please make
certain, that they are absolutely grease and oil free. There should be no grooves in the brake area.

d) Three-phase current motor

Only after about 5000 working hours the motor bearings will have to be refilled with suitable high temperature grease (drop
point at between 170°and 190°celsius approximately). Before closing the terminal box cover shall be slightly spread with
grease. Please observe the instruction plate inside the cover.

e) Turbo coupling
The hydraulic oil of the turbo coupling is to be lubricated after 5000 working hours. In the factory the turbo coupling has been
filled with hydraulic oil.Shell Tellus C 22 ISO-VG-22 22 cSt / 40 °C; 4,3 cSt / 100 °C.
Only fill in hydraulic oil with the same viscosity.

f) Spur gear
The oil of the spur gear is be renewed, according to the working hours, every 12 - 18 months. It is recommended to drain the
oil by taking off the lower locking screw immediately after having stopped the drum. If possible, refill the gear with same type of
oil.Sort of oil: synthetic oil brand - Mobil Glygoyle 30 Quantity: 4,5 liter
When changing the oil, beware of dust particles which might penetrate into the gear.
