Singular/Plural pronoun

-Could go either way, the way to decide whether the verb should be singular or plural is based on what
follows these terms

Example:

Countable nouns:

1. Most of the book is interesting – book is singular


2. Most of the books are interesting - Books are plural
3. Most of chairs were expensive
4. All of the desserts were delicious
5. None of the computers were delivered
6. Some of the lectures are important

Uncountable nouns: - – cannot be counted so it’s consider singular

1. Most of the Furniture was expensive


2. All of the food was delicious
3. None of the equipment was delivered
4. Some of the information is important
Question form:

1. Was any of his advice helpful – Advice is uncountable


2. Were any of his ideas helpful - Ideas countable and plural

Past tenses
Past simple, Past continuous, Past perfect, or (present perfect) review

1. It rains all day yesterday – rained (past simple)


2. Have you seen Maria “Last week” (do not use present perfect in finish time) ( to fix it
use present simple) – Did you see Maria last week (or if you wanna use present perfect
change it to “Have you seen Maria this week (should be going on thi day month and so
on)
3. Gary studied when I arrived – Garry was studying when I arrived (past continuous why?
Because the action of studying takes some time it doesn’t happen in one sec he was
continuing studying and studying and I came in the middle of that.
4. When have you sent the email – When did you send the email (in present perfect do not
use the word when and when you use when change it to past simple or just use have
you sent the email)
5. Did you ever see thus movie – Have you ever seen this movie (present perfect ever is
the word use in present perfect
6. When the guest arrived I already cooked dinner - I had already cooked dinner (Past
perfect Is used when we are talking about two actions and you want to show that one of
them happen first in the past although both of them happen in the past
7. I wasn’t understanding what you said – I didn’t understand what you said (there are
verbs that we cannot use in the continuous from called stated verb)
8. When I reached the airport the flight already left - the flight had already left (same with
no. 6)

common business Idioms
A tough break – Difficult or bad that happened

Ex. Someone or your colleague lost the job that’s a tough break

A lucky break – something good that happened

Ex. Manage to get a better job in the first week that’s a lucky break

A win-win situation – Both sides come ahead or benefit both can win

Ex. Negotiation Management and Labor/workforce. They’re Negotiating and they come to
compromise or agreement that both sides are happy.

A zero-sum game – only one side can win the other side is going to lose

Ex. If three law firms are trying to get the contract to work with a large corporation but only one
is going to awarded or given the contract.

A long shot – Describes the situation in which there is very little chance of success.

Ex. In job qualification requires a PHD, but he has a BA and confident young man. I would say It’s
a long shot but why don’t you try?

A safe bet- Describes the situation in which there is high chance of success/likely to happen high chance
of success.

Ex. Someone in your department is doing well and now new position for the manager has
opened. It’s a safe bet that she will get that position
An uphill battle- Where something is very difficult

Ex. The client is not very happy whatever you do he clients wants more. It’s an uphill battle to
keep that client satisfied.

A piece of cake – Some that is very easy

Ex. Client is very happy with you always. Working with that client is a piece of cake
