DIELECTRIC CONSTANT

• Dielectric constant of a material is a factor by which electrostatic

force between charges which are situated in material decrease
relative to vacuum.
• Dielectric constant of a material also define as a ratio of
capacitance(C) of capacitor with using material as a dielectric and
capacitance(C0) of capacitor which have vacuum as a dielectric.
• Dielectric constant K = C/C0
CYLINDRICAL CAPACITOR

THEORY :-
• The Capacitance of cylindrical capacitor of length L filled to a height h with a
liquid of dielectric constant K is given by C= 2𝜋𝜖0 𝑅1 [ Kh+K0 (L − h)] + 𝐶𝑠
ln(𝑅 )

• 𝐶𝑠 is sum total of stray capacitance, K0 is dielectric constant of air

2𝜋𝜖0
• After simplification C = 𝑅 (K-K0 )h + 𝐶0 ( C is linear function of h)
ln(𝑅1 )

2𝜋𝜖0
• where 𝐶0 = 𝐶𝑠 + 𝑅 K0 L
