EXPERIMENT
OBJECT:-
To determine the value of mechanical equivalent of heat “J” by electrical method.

APPARATUS:-
Electric calorimeter with stirrer, Power supply, Ammeter, Voltmeter, One way key, Half degree
thermometer, Beaker containing water, Physical balance, Weight box, Stop watch and connecting wires.

WORKING FORMULA :- Value of “J” is given by = J = ( )( )

1)Least count of thermometer = ---------------- 0C 2) Least count of ammeter = -------------- A
3) Least count of voltmeter = ---------------V 4) Mass of calorie meter with stirrer = mc = ----- gm
5) Mass of calorie meter + stirrer + water = M= -------------- gm
6) Mass of water = mw = M – mc = ----------gm
7) Initial temperature of water = T1 = ------ 0C 8) Final temperature of water = T2 = -------- 0C
9) Time for which current is passed = t = --------------- sec
10) Specific heat of water = Cw = 1 cal/gm 0C 11) Specific heat of calorie meter = Cc = 0.1 cal / gm 0C
CALCULATION:- J= ( )( )

J = --------------------- J /Cal
Percentage Error = x 100 (S.V= 4.18-4.2 J/Cal)
RESULT :- The value of J is found to be ___________ J / cal
Percentage Error = ___________%
