Folklore of San Jose City

There is no concrete elucidation on how an affluent town “Kabaritan” had come

up into its current name which is “San Jose City,” aside from being derived on the name
of Saint Joseph which is the patron of the entire town. The primitive settlers of this town
had used to call this as “Kabaritan” which means a place where “barit” (rattan) grows in
abundance. The primitive town has a plethora of wildlife and agricultural lands that can
really suffice the survival needs of a man.

After the different regime that comes over in the Philippines, many of the
advantageous effects of these events strikes on the town directly and seem to simonize
the people and the town itself. The people become more resourceful, and become
interested in improving their skills in farming. They stretch out from “pagsasaka”
(palayan) only into also planting vegetables and onions: and this makes them to be
recognized as part of the rice granary of the Philippines, and as the largest producer of
onion in the country.

From the above statement that I have provided, it simply shows how the town
becomes worthy of being named after on the Holy Saint Joseph. St. Joseph was known
to be the patron of hard working and perseverance, and this might be the most
comprehensible reason why its name was considered when the town was formalized.
