Problems in Intercultural Communication.

Language Barriers to Communication

Language is needed for any kind of communication, even people with speech impairments
communicate with sign language and brail. Communication becomes difficult in situations where
people don’t understand each others’ language. The inability to communicate using a language is
known as language barrier to communication..

Language barriers are the most common communication barriers which cause
misunderstandings and misinterpretations between people. Difference in language is the most
obvious barrier to communication as two people speaking two different languages cannot
communicate with each other.

For example, if a person form Manila who speaks Tagalog went to Mindanao. Even though
Mindanao is still located within the Philippines, there is a difference in language between Filipino
who lived there are those who lived at Manila. Thus communication will be a problem. There will be
a language barrier that will prevent a person who can only speaks Tagalog form having an effective
conversation with the locals there. Sometimes it is much better that we should try to learns at least
the basics of the language of the of the place where we will go. At least basic words or phrases that
will helps us express what we wanted to say.
