provide appropriate steam source for end shaft seal, sealing under steam turbine start up, operation,
shutdown conditions
Guide and recover leak steam mixture at steam turbine shaft end seal and high, medium pressure main
throttle valve steam so as to prevent steam leaking into the plant building; or air in the atmosphere leaking
into low pressure cylinder, that might influence unit vacuum." Steam sealing system
This unit adopts self-sealing steam system, in which steam leakage from shaft end seal of the high,
intermediate pressure cylinders is fed to shaft end seal as low pressure steam during normal operation of
the unit. Surplus steam leakage overflows to low pressure heater or condenser via overflow station. At unit
start-up or low load operation stage, steam of the steam seal-is supplied by external steam. The steam
sealing system may be turned on/off automatically according to the steam supply requirements of unit
steam seal in the whole process from unit start-up to full load operation. In addition, this system also
provides steam source for feed pump steam turbine steam sealing system.
Turbine shaft seal system is used to seal the leak of steam from HP, IP and LP turbines.
Three control valves are provided for regulating supply steam to seal system

Starting Procedure of Vacuum Pump
Cold Start
1. TG on barring gear √ √
2. During cold start-up use the steam supply from auxiliary steam √ √
√
source and maintain the pressure 12 kpa unto 25% of load.
3. Load > 25%- When the load reaches >25% the source of CRH
√
steam is to be provided.
4. Load > 60%- When the load reaches > 60% leak of steam comes
from HP/IP cylinder shaft and at this stage control valve closed
manually and over flow valve open on auto. The excess steam of
√
gland steam discharge to the LPH No. 8 and self seal steam
ensure and the steam supply from CRH shall be closed in
normal running condition.
HOT START
5. TG on barring gear √
6. Ensure the steam supply of the steam seal comes from auxillary √
steam source and seal steam header pressure is maintained.
7. Load 25% to 60 % - When the load is about 25 % and less than
60 % the CRH steam is supplied and maintain the pressure √ √ √
26KPa
8. Load > 60 % - When the load reaches > 60% leak of steam
comes from HP/IP cylinder shaft and at this stage control valve
closed manually and over flow valve open on auto. The excess
√
steam of gland steam discharge to the LPH No. 8 and self seal
steam ensure and the supply CRH supply shall be closed in
normal running.
9. Load Rejection Stage √
10. The Seal steam is supplied by auxiliary steam source, the √
overflow control valve closed on auto and HP steam supply √
governing valve open on auto.
