How does the Christian worldview influence the lives of

adherents?

The Christian worldview is defined as the functionality of the belief system

of Christianity in the lives of adherents, specifically its sacred texts and
writings, beliefs, ethics and practices. This worldview and beliefs can be
exemplified in a quote from John 14:6 ‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and
the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”’ The
Christian worldview and this quote in particular has a significant impact
and holds great influence over adherents in many ways throughout
everyday life. The Christian worldview covers several core beliefs being:
Jesus is the Son of God who was sent to save humankind, that on the third
day after his death Jesus was resurrected from the dead and ascended into
the Kingdom of God, that there is a life after death, and belief in the holy
trinity comprised of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. However, the
Christian worldview isn’t just based on belief and Jesus, but also on faith
and a deep spirituality which is prevalent even today. The Christian
worldviews and ways of life can be simplified into 3 different categories: the
life and teachings of Jesus Christ, the 10 commandments and the
beatitudes.

Jesus Christ and how he lived his life is considered to be the be the way all
adherents of Christianity strive to be. Heralded as the purest being, Jesus is
considered fully human and fully divine by adherents which makes him the
perfect role model for all Christians, and his many teachings and beliefs has
great influence over the current Christian worldview. His teachings include
that of forgiveness, acceptance of others, treating everyone equally and with
kindness, and many other. This is exemplified in Luke 17:3-4 where Jesus
said: “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they
repent, forgive them. Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and
seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”
This idea of forgiveness no matter how many times someone has wronged
you is a core belief of Christianity and its worldview. Another key belief and
teaching is accepting others. Seen all throughout the Bible, for example:
Romans 15:1-7, Romans 2:11 ‘God does not show favouritism’ and Romans
14:10-19, accepting others without prejudice and discrimination are very
important. Many debate that love, and specifically ‘Agape Love’ is the most
key teaching by Jesus. Countless times he demonstrates and also tells his
followers to love all no matter who they are or what they’ve done, which is
arguably the basis of the Christian worldview, this can be seen in the
scripture reference: Matthew 22:37-40. While there are many diverse and
different teachings and lessons we learn from Jesus and how he lived his
life, the ideas of forgiveness, and acceptance, and love are arguably the
three most important teachings he provides, shaping and greatly affecting
the Christian worldview to what it is today.

The 10 Commandments are the basis of most laws and rules in the western
world. According to the Bible, Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the
10 commandments from God, dictating how the Jewish people should live,
these ideas carried over to Christianity when it was formed as well. These
rules and regulations and huge influences and contributors to the Christian
worldview as nearly all of our actions and decisions are based off it. The
commandments are arguably the basis of western society and our morality,
as it says: thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not murder, thou shalt not
commit adultery, and many others. These therefore influence the lives of
adherents to Christianity as to this day they are governed by them.

The Eight Beatitudes of Jesus are proclamations pronounced by Jesus at a

sermon which provide messages of humility, charity, agape love,
acceptance, kindness and appreciativeness. Seen in the Gospel of Matthew
5:3-10, the beatitudes can be seen as the defining worldview and guidelines
for adherents to Christianity. Those who are humble and ‘poor in spirit’,
appreciative, just and righteous, merciful and show love to all are accepted
in the Kingdom of God. The beatitudes influence the lives of those who
follow Christianity akin to the 10 commandments by informing adherents
on how to live their lives, except contrasting to the commandments teach
humility and certain mindsets to have, while the commandments provide
social rules for everyone to follow not touching too deeply on how one
should behave when alone.

In conclusion, the Christian worldview is comprised of many different

factors which all greatly influence and affect the lives of adherents of
Christianity as shown from the teachings of Jesus Christ, the rules and
guidelines of the 10 commandments dictating how all adherents should
live, and the 8 beatitudes of Jesus which tells all should live in humility and
with: charity, agape love, acceptance, righteousness and kindness.
