. . At this stage, I am satisfied with the progress of this Pre-service Teacher.
. X. At this stage, I have some concerns about the progress of this Pre-service Teacher.
. . I consider this Pre-service Teacher may be at risk of not being able to meet the requirements of the
Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Please provide some written feedback regarding areas of strength and areas needing improvement.

Professional Knowledge (Strengths):

Jack has shown a developing knowledge of a range of historical events that were previously unknown to him. He has
been able to organise his content into a learning and teaching sequence that has become more effective as time has
gone on. He has utilised some strategies for literacy teaching, particularly through source analysis tasks. Jack has shown
that he knows the students who he is teaching,

Development required in the areas of:

To this point, the use of differentiation to engage all learners in the classroom has been limited. I would like to see
learning activities that are designed to engage the class – whether individual, paired, small group or whole class work. I
would also like to see scaffolding provided for students to better engage with the tasks at hand. My two greatest
concerns in this domain relate to the effective designing of learning sequences (most notably seen through the
submission of lesson plans), and the lack of formative assessment which has meant that Jack’s understanding of just how
much students are learning in his class is limited. While he has been able to provide explanations for the summative task,
the use of ICT tools and direct questioning (or even collating the work that has been completed each lesson) would be
useful to help Jack understand the learning that is taking place within his lessons.

Professional Practice (Strengths):

Jack’s presence in the classroom has been positive, and he has been able to establish good working relationships with
students. This has allowed him to demonstrate his ability to use verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to
support student engagement. Jack is a personable educator, and the students have benefitted from his ability to discuss
with them one-on-one the task at hand. In the initial lessons that Jack taught, he was able to establish the learning
objectives and demonstrate to the class how they were met – I would encourage him to carry on this practice as a means
of keeping himself, and students, on track with the learning sequence that has been planned.

Development required in the areas of:

I would really like Jack to continue to work on the fundamentals of teaching – careful and thoughtful planning regarding
activities that will engage students in the topics that he is teaching. I would like to see a stronger emphasis on the use of
interactive ICT resources (even if it were tools like Quizizz, Google Classroom, Socrative, Poll Everywhere etc.). Using
tools like this will enable Jack to be able to assess and provide feedback on student learning as it is happening – rather
than simply at the end of a unit. The planning of lesson sequences also needs to be considered, and finalised, earlier
than the day of the lesson. Providing me with the lesson plan at least the night before would allow for me to provide
feedback on the lesson and give Jack the opportunity to make adjustments as required which will lead to more effective
learning for the students.
Professional Engagement (Strengths):
Jack has engaged with the life of the College, working well with colleagues in a range of extra-curricular activities,
including attending a camp for Outdoor Education students. He has been an active participant in staff meetings and
attended to administrative duties including taking the roll and making notes on Seqta as required.

Development required in the areas of:

I would like for Jack to seek more feedback on his own practice, and demonstrate his understanding of this feedback in
future lessons. Being able to receive and work with the feedback provided will enable Jack to significantly enhance his
own practice. Now that Jack has been on an excursion and camp through the opening four weeks of his placement, I
would really encourage him to make the most of the time that he has remaining – using the Standards for Teachers to
identify professional learning needs, and trying as many different classroom strategies as he can so that he can finish his
placement with a strong set of skills to take with him into the start of his teaching career.
