Sampling Technique

According to Sugiyono (2012:118) define sampling technique is used in the study or

research. This research used cluster random sampling. According to Subong

(2005:21) states that cluster sampling is a sampling process in which groups, not

individuals, are randomly selected. The researcher select randomly all class X, and

will take two groups. One of two groups as experimental group, and the other as the

control group.

A. TECHNIQUE OF COLLECTING DATA

Darmadi (2011:86) states that data are absolute requirement of a research as it is a

means of proving hypothesis. Data are used to either solve or answer the problem of the

research. In order to get the data, the researcher would collect the data by some techniques:

1. Instruments

The research instrument plays an important role to collect data. The

instrument used in this research was reading test. Test used to know the students

comprehension in reading. The researcher used one type of reading test, which

is multiple-choice type. Multiple-choice type was scored objectively and

measured learning directly.

In this research, the test consisted of 40 items with four alternatives. The

alternatives include one correct answer and three wrong answers. There were

five passages and from each passage, the researcher made a question on reading

text including question of identifying topic, find the main idea in a paragraph,

identifying details, make inferences, find the meaning of vocabulary in context.

The test used pre-test and post-test. The researcher was given the pre-test

first before doing action. It purposes to know the initial skill of the students. The

data was collected by giving reading test. Data of this research is the students'

scores of pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was given in the first meeting and

the post-test at the end of treatment.

Pre-test was given to recognize that how far the ability of student in

reading before the researcher conducts the treatment. Meanwhile, the researcher

gave experimental group by using Shared Reading strategy. And, the researcher

gave silent way strategy in control class. Finally, to identify the effectiveness of

Shared Reading strategy toward students’ reading achievement, the researcher

gave post-test in experimental class.
