1. OBJECTIVE
The objective of these documents is to provide guidelines for Welding work being
carried out to attain the quality and safety to meet the contractual requirement of the
Project.

2. SCOPE OF WORK
This MS covers the welding work of steel structure under the applicable codes
and standards or project specification.

2.1 WORK PERMIT REQUIRED


Work Permits to be obtain for every job performed as per requirement.

2.4 RESPONSIBILITIES

 PM will be responsible for the initialization of the work, as well as to


manage the resources to perform their respective activities of welding,
testing in compliance with the quality, schedule and safety requirements of
the project.
 Site Engineer will ensure that the welding, testing activities are conducted
according to this method statement, latest project drawings & client
specification.
 QA&QC Engineer/inspector will assure that all the relevant work is carried
out in conformance with project specification.
 HSE team will assure the implementation of HSE plan.

3. EQUIPEMENTS
The following equipment’s shall be deployed to site as per required numbers.

5. Methodology of Welding works

 Before staring of welding work, tacking of material will be done.


 After tacking of material, surface to be welded and surface adjacent to the weld,
shall be cleaned to remove the excessive quantities of the following (water, oil ,
grease and other hydrocarbon based materials) etc.
 Preparation of Base Metal; base metal sufficiently clean to permit weld to be
made that will be meet the quality requirements of the code AWSD1.1 .
 Weld shall not be placed on the surface that contains fins, tears , cracks ,slag
as base metal defect.
 Loos scale, thick scale and thick rust will be removed from the surfaces to be
removed and from surfaces adjacent to be welded with the help of wire brush.
 The weld preparation will be done as per standard of AWS D1.1 under the
suitable tolerance given in the code AWSD1.1 clause 5.21.1 and 5.21.3 etc.
 For Butt weld, complete weld preparation will be done as per Standard of
AWSD1.1 after completing the welding.
 Witness call will be raised for consultant to check the Fit-up of base metal.
 E7018 Electrode will be used for welding of two members of steel structure.
 Electrode will be baked at [230◦C - 430◦C ] for 2hours as per recommendations
of AWS D1.1, sub clause 5.3.2.2 and 5.3.2.4 .
 Cleaning during the passes will be done as per recommendation of AWS D1.1
Sub Clause 5.29.
 After welding finishing will be done and anti-rust paint will be applied to avoid
rusting.
 For Butt weld, complete weld preparation will be done as per Standard of
AWSD1.1 after completing the welding.

6. TESTING PROCEDURE
 DPT Testing of welding joints will be performed on the Root and after capping
on 10% Fillet weld joints.
 For Butt weld, RT / UT will be performed from approved third party as per
Technical specification clause 4.59.22 (Erection Quality Control).

7. HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS


 Work Permit must be obtained before welding work to be supervised by a competent
person assigned by site authority.
 Workers will use Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, gloves, goggle etc.)
 The working area should be cleared of items that may cause injury during work.
 Fire blanket must be used to safe the important equipment from fire.
 Authorized person shall be nominated to operate the welding equipment. When the
welding shall be achieved, he shall be responsible to shut off the switch immediately
and isolate the system.
 The area will be assured free of unauthorized workers / persons and tools. Before
testing activity.
