Informational Text- is defined as text with the primary purpose of expressing
information about arts, sciences or social studies. This text ranges from newspaper and
magazine article to digital information to nonfiction trade books to textbooks and
reference materials.
Types:
1. A factual description describes a particular living, non-living or natural phenomenon.
It is a text that says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal
a particular person, place or thing.
 Identification; identifying the phenomenon to be described
 Description; describing the phenomenon in parts, qualities, or/and
characteristics.
Example
1. The cow is a domestic animal with four legs, two horns and a tail. It eats grass,
hay and other vegetarian food items. It gives milk. Dairy products like cheese,
butter and yogurt are used extensively all over the world. Cow dung is used as
manure in rural areas.
2. A factual recount-tells about something that happened in the past. The details in a
recount can include what happened, who was involved, where it took place, when it
happened, and why it occurred.
A writer or speaker uses a recount to tell us about a story or an event.
Recounts are usually given in the order that the event occurred.
Recounts can be either written or spoken. Examples of recounts include:
 Biographies and autobiographies
 Newspaper or the television news
 Letters and postcards
 Textbooks
 Conversations with friends

3. Procedural texts or Information Report provide step-by-step guidelines that describe


how to complete a task. They often include a materials-needed section and graphics
that illustrate the process, recipes and manual on how to use certain gadgets.
