improvement in biological simulation and modeling; and last but not least Information
Technology makes a visible in laboratory studies.”
The highlights of the article are: All the literature and the reports bring light to the fact that IT has
a substantial impact on biology. The review shows blatantly that IT is used in a wide variety of
applications in bioscience. Another role played by IT is that throughout the scientific cycle in biology. IT
is used in many ways throughout the scientific process. There are some systems that are too intricate to
study without advanced computational tools for managing and integrating the data into mechanistic
models (Department of Energy, 2001). Systems biology aims to model and simulate various systems
and visualize the results to help better understand living processes. The number of activities that apply
information technology to model activity at the cellular and sub cellular levels is on the rise and wide
variety. Formal methods and computer tools for the modeling and simulation of genetic regulatory
networks are needed to understand their operation. Although past attempts to model cellular processes
have been disappointing, increases in biological understanding combined with advances in
computational methods and in computer power make it possible to foresee construction of useful and
predictive simulations of cellular processes (Endy and Brent 2001, Covert et. al. 2001).
There are other uses of IT in biology too. For instance, another cross-cutting area at the intersection
of IT and bioscience is the application of artificial intelligence to biology. To sum up, IT has proved to
be of conspicuously great impacts on different areas of bioscience and the uses will be on the rise both
in new areas and new perspectives.

Title: Biological and Chemical Information Technologies

Data/Information:
Biological and chemical information technologies (bio/chem IT) have the potential to reshape the
scientific and technological landscape. In this paper we briefly review the main challenges and
opportunities in the field, before presenting several case studies based on ongoing FP7 research
projects.
Biologists now operate in a time when technology is not merely appreciated, but acclaimed.
Research not based on specific hypotheses and carried out by using methods to analyze a
complete set of genes or proteins has been termed “discovery science,” a moniker that comes
uncomfortably close to suggesting that traditional research is incapable of discoveries. Funding
agencies actively solicit proposals to develop techniques, especially those that will assist the
analysis of the vast quantities of DNA sequence that are accumulating. Universities seek to build

institutes that bring biologists into contact with mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, and
engineers.
Because technology provides the tools and biology the problems, the two should enjoy a
happy marriage. But this relationship is complicated: methods may develop adventitiously and
independent of the needs of the biological community; settings conducive to the advancement of
technology are formidable to establish; and the ability to generate novel methodology may require
training in multiple disciplines. Those who want answers to biological questions may not be
concerned with the engineering and machinery that are necessary to reach them, and those who
like to tinker with methods may not care about the answers at all.
Technology development is unlike most other research in the biological sciences—so much
so that one of the first postdoctoral fellows in my laboratory told me that it was not science at all.
For one thing, technology development is totally unconstrained by the exigencies of billions of years
of evolution. It presents none of the surprising quirks of cellular processes that must be
painstakingly deduced from a succession of clues, or suddenly glimpsed in a fragment of data. The
technologist is free to imagine the use of tools that do not conform to those used by cells at any
time in the earth's history. Another difference is that technology can be an all-or-nothing affair:
because half of a novel method is not a method, this type of research may not be rewarded in the
same way as progress in biological understanding. Yet another contrast is that critical incremental
improvements in technology may be due as much to the acumen of engineers as to the cleverness
of biologists.
With the current widespread efforts to foster the development and application of technologies,
it is instructive to consider how methodologies for biology have arisen in the past. No universal
pattern holds: discoveries emerge from varying venues, from contrasting personalities, and from
distinct sources of inspiration. These variables should be kept in mind when planning for scientific
enterprises, research funding, and student training.

The video attempts to show how information technology contributes to toxins, chemicals,
contaminants, and hazardous wastes leak to the environment through the irresponsible manufacturing
and dumping of old computers into areas of the world that are poverty stricken. Furthermore, people
(children and adults alike) perform extractions on components dumped in these areas that release even
more chemicals, and intensify the damage through the pollution of soil and water.

We can’t deny the fact that all things have both positive and negative impact. Technology was
created to make our lives easier, while making our lives shorter. In the video being presented,
we are using computers in countless ways and using computer has both positive and negative
impact on our environment. We use it to discover knowledge like what makes up a human body,
the regulation of financial markets, information exchange that allows us to be aware of
happenings, provides us knowledge about space and what makes the planets, used by military
forces for us to be protected and many more advantages was brought to us. Even there are a lot
of positive impacts that computers can bring to us, entry of its negative side can’t be hidden

limited. This could cause health problems as the person could develop Repetitive strain injury. Families
may also be concerned about the health of the individual. Computer games are fast becoming one of
the causes of social isolation. An exemption to that are new online games with built-in chat system
which has recently been implemented but notwithstanding, it also reduce the opportunity of a game
addict going out with friends
3. Cost
Most games of nowadays can make a person go bankrupt as there is a drive to purchase the latest
game or purchase tokens that can be used to win the game or appear on the leader board.
5. Aggression/Violence
Being so obsessed with computer games especially violent games could motivate a person to mimic the
situations in games and commit crimes like killing, stealing, law breaking etc. in this process, this mostly
happens with games that use real world scenarios and places.
6. Other Concerns
Other concerns about gaming include repetitive strain injuries like neck stiffness which could be caused
due to sitting still while playing games for a prolonged period of time, eye strain and injuries can also be
caused by 3D video games if it is being watched for a long period of time etc.,
7. Cause of Controversy
It has also caused controversies among certain groups of people. An example is the music used in
LittleBigPlanet which sparked controversy after it was claimed that the singer used verses from the
Qur'an.
Benefits of gaming
2. Job Creation
Computer games have helped to create jobs for people in terms of giving graduates opportunities to
work in a computer-game production company. Since IT projects mainly require a group of people to
complete a task within a deadline, this ensures that many people are employed. Besides this, gamers

turn generates income through embedded advertisements and other forms.
3. Brain Training and Improved Thinking and Strategy Skills / Language Learning
Playing computer games helps to improve the brain capacity and activity and this is sometimes also
recommended for patients. Examples of such is Brain Challenge, IQ Test etc. Amongst these, there are
also several games specifically designed to help users learn languages and this can be easily achieved
since there are incorporated learner facilitiies, help guides and questions in the game
