The differences between physical activity and fitness.

In an ideal world, people would be

physically active and fit. However, people often confuse the difference between physical
activity and exercise. Physical activity includes body movement that utilizes muscles and
requires more energy than rest. https://www.oregonlive.com/news-
network/index.ssf/2012/07/the_differences_between_physic.html

Physical activity simply means movement of the body that uses energy. Walking, gardening,
briskly pushing a baby stroller, climbing the stairs, playing soccer, or dancing the night away
are all good examples of being active. For health benefits, physical activity should be
moderate or vigorous intensity.https://www.choosemyplate.gov/physical-activity-what-is

Physical fitness is your ability to carry out tasks without undue fatigue. Learn about the
components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory endurance, muscle strength, muscle
endurance, flexibility and body composition and why they are important.

There are 2 main parts to fitness - well actually there are 5 parts - Cardiorespiratory,
Muscular strength, Muscular endurance, Physical flexibility, Body composition

- Cardio Fitness - that's the huffing part.

- Structural Fitness - that's the aching parts.

Cardio fitness is to do with the fitness of your heart and lungs - essentially it is how efficient
they are. After all we basically need air to live and do everything. If the big pump (heart) and
air reservoir (lungs) are optimized then your cardiovascular fitness is operating well and
running (or any exercise) will feel easy. Structural Fitness is the condition of your muscles,
joints and all the other parts of your body that are doing all the moving when the Cardio
engine is pumping. http://icanrunamarathon.blogspot.com/2009/06/two-types-of-

*skill-related fitness

Skill-related fitness refers to an individual’s performance capacity within the context of doing
something that requires a physical skill. An example would be throwing and catching a ball.
It’s not the skill itself, but the performance of the skill. The performance of such activity
involves motor skills. A motor skill is a learned sequence of movements that typically
involves some combination of agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, or reaction time.
Optimum performance stems from doing the sequence of movements as efficiently and
effectively as possible.

health-related fitness

To a certain extent, health-related fitness may be the more important of the two types of
fitness for the average person – though I don’t want to inadvertently suggest either type is
unimportant to anyone at any age. Health-related fitness by itself is not synonymous with
wellness (wellness is more all-inclusive and will be dealt with in another post), but it is vital
to achieving wellness. It contributes by helping to prevent disease and improve the quality
of life. Health-related fitness is something you can change through physical activity, healthy
living, and diet. The key is to focus on specific aspirations for enhancing each one of them.
