Listening text
Crispin was almost home when he discovered a small tree. Its branches were limp, and its leaves were
withered by the summer sun. “A tree is a great gift,” Crispin explained to his playmates. “How shall we save it?”
All of them looked to one another, hoping a solution would be offered. But no one spoke.
Then Crispin saw rocks the size of melons and a shallow watering hole in the distance. He instructed everyone
to gouge a channel in the hard ground, running from the water to the tree. That night the job was done.
Fifty years later, an old Crispin sat under the shade of the tree and watched his grandchildren play in its cool
shade.
