Abstract—This work presents the design and development of a variable switch mode power supply that is supplied with
the AC mains. Inductive, capacitive and resistive modules are inserted with the supply so as to familiarize the working of
basic switching power supplies. The buck topology is chosen for developing SMPS because it provides multiple lower
voltages to different devices from a single input supply (which is relatively higher voltage than output voltage) with the
provision of high current. In addition buck topology is also simpler and versatile for the implementation. Arduino is used
for supervisory control. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is generated through Arduino to drive the high power MOSFET.
The proposed regulator delivers variable output voltage 0-34V/2A DC with constant frequency operation.

Keywords—Buck Regulator, Continuous Current Mode

I. INTRODUCTION (HEADING 1)
Power supplies are used widely for most of the real time applications. They are categorized as linear and switched mode
power supplies [1]. In the linear power supply switch is operated in linear (active) region of switch, so in linear region losses
are high [2][3]. The SMPS switch operates in saturation and cut-off region. Hence the losses are reduced and efficiency is
high [4][5]. SMPS are categorized into two types –Isolated and non-isolated
topologies. The main difference between the two is that, in isolated power supply, the output power stage is isolated from
input by means of isolating transformer or isolators. In non-isolated power supply, the transformer is eliminated. For
simplicity and training purpose, we have chosen non-isolated topology.

A. Units
 Use either SI (MKS) or CGS as primary units. (SI units are encouraged.) English units may be used as secondary units (in
parentheses). An exception would be the use of English units as identifiers in trade, such as “3.5-inch disk drive”.
 Avoid combining SI and CGS units, such as current in amperes and magnetic field in oersteds. This often leads to
confusion because equations do not balance dimensionally. If you must use mixed units, clearly state the units for each
quantity that you use in an equation.
 Do not mix complete spellings and abbreviations of units: “Wb/m2” or “webers per square meter”, not “webers/m2”.
Spell out units when they appear in text: “. . . a few henries”, not “. . . a few H”.

B. Authors and Affiliations
The template is designed for, but not limited to, six authors. A minimum of one author is required for all conference
articles. Author names should be listed starting from left to right and then moving down to the next line. This is the author
sequence that will be used in future citations and by indexing services. Names should not be listed in columns nor group by
affiliation. Please keep your affiliations as succinct as possible (for example, do not differentiate among departments of the
same organization).
1) For papers with more than six authors: Add author names horizontally, moving to a third row if needed for more than
8 authors.
2) For papers with less than six authors: To change the default, adjust the template as follows.
a) Selection: Highlight all author and affiliation lines.
b) Change number of columns: Select the Columns icon from the MS Word Standard toolbar and then select the
correct number of columns from the selection palette.
c) Deletion: Delete the author and affiliation lines for the extra authors.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT (Heading 5)
Firstly, we would like to express our gratitude towards ALMIGHTY ALLAH, through whose accord our project has completed
successfully.

“…..I only intend reform as much as I am able. And my success is not but through Allah.” [Quran, 11: 88]

A task, even the easiest of things cannot be achieved solely by single efforts, rather it depends on the collective efforts.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude towards our supervisor Dr. Zafar Ali Shah for his support, guidance, insight,
motivation and great patience for the past year. Due to the tasks leading to the accomplishment of our project Dr. Zafar has
given us we came to know lot of hidden areas of this field which are not visible at the first sight. He made us better in the
field of switch mode power supplies. Many thanks.

We would also like to extend our appreciation towards Dr. Fida for giving us encouragement in doing this project.

Finally, we would like to thank our friends who gave us the atmosphere of doing projects.
