Standard 2: Skillfulness and Health-Related Fitness Component

2.b: Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of fitness throughout the

program
Artifact: “Certificate of Fitness”

(FitnessGram report) Date: Spring 2017

Reflection:
My health-related fitness skills were measured in PED 282, Health-Related
Physical Fitness, using fitnessgram. The test was used to evaluate my muscular
strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility. As a class
we used the Pacer test to measure cardiovascular endurance, curl-ups to measure
muscular endurance/strength, push-ups to measure muscular strength/endurance,
and the sit and reach to measure flexibility.
I chose this artifact for my portfolio because I had was able to meet and
exceed the recommended number of reps that would be considered the “healthy
fitness zone” according to fitnessgram for all four skills. To maintaining this
health-enhancing level of fitness I will make sure follow the national standards for
physical activity as well as working out multiple times a week. In addition to
maintaining my level fitness I will continue to try to improve myself by constantly
challenging myself by setting new fitness goals.

I believe this artifact is important towards my development as a

teacher because this “Certificate of Fitness” is statistical proof that I have
achieved a health-enhancing level of fitness. This is important because I must
remain consistent in staying within the healthy fitness zone throughout my
teaching experience. As a teacher I am a role model for my students, which means
it is important I maintain my physical fitness as an example for students to follow.
It will also allow me to participate with my students during fitness units. Lastly one
of the goals as a physical educator to help student live and maintain a healthy life
style. This goal also applies to me, not just the students.
