Eating is part of our daily lives, for we cannot live if we do not eat. We must
always provide food to survive from hunger and make our body healthy so we can
face the challenges along the way. Eating is also like reading.

Reading is making our minds full and healthy. It makes us more imaginative
that it takes us to places we never thought we could be in. It makes us friendly that
it introduces us to different kinds of being. It makes us cry, or laugh from the
emotions it wants us to feel. It also makes us intelligent because we learn new
words and ideas from it.

In the celebration of the National Children’s Book Day with the theme:
“Mundong Payapa, para sa Kabataang Malaya”, we do a lot of reading activities so
the children will become more imaginative, intelligent, to touch their hearts and to
bring them into an adventure through their minds and hearts.

On July 15, 2019 we started the celebration by gathering all the pupils from
Kindergarten to Grade 6 in the covered court of the school. We first had a short
program lead by the School Head. The different kinds of books were showed to the
pupils. We also had discussed about the importance of reading and how it will
change one’s life.

There is a conduct of reading done by the teacher. Afterwards, the pupils

were asked about the story read for them. Another activity is the video presentation
of a parable and a fable. They were also asked about the story they have watched
and made a reflection from the stories.

In the following days, each grade level were asked to read the different
reading materials provided for them in their classrooms. Every 1:00 o clock in the
afternoon, before the start of classes, this activity is conducted.

Day by day, the pupils have gained interest in reading and had improved
their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills.
