Main Body Design of Werkspoor Crystallizer

Werkspoor crystallizer is a constant form of crystallizer, consisting of a U-shaped or bottle-shaped open

container with a rotating and circulating system with a shallow drum of big cross-sectional tom which is
riveted with a no. of cooling pockets. The pockets are cupped inside the main drum with a certain sort of
pipe connection and the cooling water circulates through them. The cooling water is circulating to the
masscicuite in counter-current action. A consistent temperature drop is recorded.

The main body of the equipment is composed of the following:

a. U-shaped/Bottle shape open container/trough – a long, narrow open container, vessel that
holds the other parts of the crystallizer.
b. Hollow shaft - a shaft is rotating machine element, usually circular in cross section and which is
used to transmit power from one part to another part or from a machine which is power
producer to power machine, which absorbs power, which directly slides over the crystallizer
shaft and keyed to it.
c. Rotating disk – used to ensure the same gradient and crystallizing conditions on the surface.
d. Baffles - have the dual purpose of supporting the tubes at intervals to prevent sag and vibration,
and also of forcing the shell side fluid back and forth across the bundle
e. Gear box – serve as an efficient means to reverse the direction of motion, change rotational
speed, or to change which axis the rotary motion is occurring to.
f. Motor - electrical device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. In certain
applications, such as in the transportation industry with traction motors, electric motors can
operate in both motoring and generating or braking modes to also produce electrical energy
from mechanical energy
