CHAPTER 1
CASE BACKGROUND
1.1 CASE DISCUSSION
-Cagayan de Oro has few museums, namely, Museo de oro in Xavier University, Museum of
three cultures in Capitol University, City museum in Gaston Park. But the question is, are these
existing museums having enough facility to accommodate the increasing population of Cagayan de
Oro? Are their locations visible enough to let the people in the city know the existence of these
museums? A lot of people come and visit the place but they have no idea about the history and
culture of the City.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

a. REAL WORL PROBLEM
-Situated as it is in Northern Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro is the gateway to the second-
largest island in the Philippines. And a lot of people are migrating in the city. Yet, only few have
known the story behind Cagayan de Oro. It is important to know the history and culture of the
place where you live. Because this will help the people living in the city understand and love the
city.
-Museum audiences are increasing in number, diversity, and in their expectations. The
wide availability of comprehensive information and media has created a generation of museum
visitors that needs advanced new experiences and ideas. Museums increasingly face the
challenge of maintaining academic and professional standards while also being convincing and
entertaining enough to compete with their audience’s other various leisure time options.

b. ARCHITECTURAL PROBLEM
-How will the project can accommodate a huge number of students in Cagayan de Oro? Not just
student but also the people living in the City and the people that come and go in the City.
-Determine the square areas of the space requirement of the building.
-Identify the spaces required to create a City Museum.
