A CONTEXTUALIZED LESSON PLAN

IN
EARTH SCIENCE

Teacher: CHAN SEE L. MILLA

School: Mapanas Agro-Industrial High School
Track: CORE SUBJECT
Time: 10:30 – 11:30 A.M
Date: July 31, 2019 (Grade 11- GALILIE)

CONTENT STANDARD:
 The learners demonstrate an understanding of plate tectonics.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
 The learners shall be able to, use maps to predict what could happen in the future as the
tectonic plates continue to move.

LEARNING COMPETENCY:
 The learners shall be able to:
 Explain how the continents drift.
CODE: S11/12ES-Ib-20

 Cite evidence that support continental drift.

CODE: S11/12ES-Ib-21

 Trace the movement of plates leads to the formation of folds and faults.
CODE: S11/12ES-Ib-22

I. OBJECTIVES:
 At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
 Discuss the history behind the theory of Continental drift.
 Describe the continental drift theory.
 Enumerate and explain the evidence used to support the idea of drifting continents.
II. SUBJECT MATTER:

DCCMM IX A. TOPOGRAPHY

a. Topic: EARTH MATERIALS AND PROCESSES

b. Subtopic: Deformation of the crust
c. Values Integration: Unity
d. Contextualization: Sketch the flow of the land in the locality
e. Basic Text: Earth and life Science (For Senior High School)
f. References: TG pp. 111-118, Earth Science pp 36-40.
g. Materials: Laptop, monitor,

III. PROCEDURES:

A. Preliminary Activities:
1. Routinary Activity
 Checking of learner attendance
2. Review of Previous Lesson
 Learners will recapitulate about the previous lesson
3. Motivation
 The learners will identify some areas in the locality in which fault lines are observe.
4. Presentation
 Presentation of the new lesson

B. Learning Procedures:

1. Activity
 The learners/ groups of learners will trace fault line areas in the locality which is prone
for hazards during plate tectonics (example: earthquake, storm surge and landslides).
 Learners will use the spot map of the locality as guide in tracing those hazardous areas in
the locality.
 Learners will formulate a mitigation plan for those identified areas.
 Learners will present their output.

RUBRICS
4 (Exceeds 3 (Meets 2 (Needs 1 (Not
Performance Expectations) Expectations) Improvement) Presented well)
1. Understanding of the
topic
2. Accuracy of the topic
3. Cooperation
4. Presentation

2. ANALYSIS
 Facilitate learners to analyze the following:
1. What will happen when there is an occurrence of plate tectonics?
2. How can we mitigate or prevent the possible effect plate tectonics?
3. ABSTRACTION
1. Discuss the theory of Continental drift.
2. Cite evidences that support continental drift.
3. Contextualize the areas (topography) that is possible for folds and faults during plate
tectonics (example: earthquake, landslides and storm surge).

4. APPLICATION
 Learners will make a mitigation plan for identified hazards in our locality caused by
plate tectonics.

IV. EVALUATION:

(Short Quiz)

Learners will answer the question posted in the monitor.

V. ASSIGNMENT:

Learners will take down notes of their assignment posted in the monitor.
