This document describes two muscles of the superficial back muscle group - the latissimus dorsi and trapezius. The latissimus dorsi originates from the spinous processes of the lower back and inserts into the humerus. It adducts and medially rotates the arm. The trapezius originates from the skull and inserts into the shoulder blade and humerus. It extends and rotates the arm.
