University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao 2019-2020
ABSTRACT
Public markets exist to fulfill a public purpose, showcase a community’s unique
character and culture while serving its everyday shopping need. Santiago City Public Market caters the consumers from Santiago City and nearby municipalities. However, the current status of the Market doesn't provide what the people needs. There is no existing Market Code and it lacks of basic utilities. There are also sanitation problems, population congestion and inadequate market sectioning. All these problems leave the Public Market and the vicinity a sickly environment and will cause a stress for the people. The main goal of this study is to redevelop the Public Market of Santiago City using the concept of Sustainable Design through Biophilic Design Approach to give comfort and aims to connect the market and the people to the natural environment. This redevelopment can positively enhance and improve the Santiago Public Market through Architectural solutions that will enable to invite, satisfy and give comfort to locals and neighboring municipalities. The paper employed descriptive research methods to address the objectives of this proposal. The redevelopment of Santiago City Public Market will bring about exponential growth through sustainable and biophilic design not only to the market but to the city itself.
