WORK 2018 to Present
EXPERIENCE:
Project Manager at Hillis-Carnes Capitol Service, PLLC.

We hold ourselves to a higher standard of what defines a healthy

building by testing the indoor air levels of hundreds of contaminants
that affect human health.

2014 to 2018

Research Chemist in Industrial Hygiene at the Centers for Disease

Control and Prevention (CDC) / The National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

In the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Branch (ACIB) my research

focus was to develop a bioassay that evaluates the efficacy of detergent
and sanitizers to clean firefighter turnout gear from pathogens.
Investigated microorganisms were Staphylococcus aureus,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Bacillus
subtilis. I currently employ different molecular biology techniques such
as genomic DNA isolation and RT-PCR to quantify viable and non-
viable bacteria in biofilm formation.

In the Exposure Assesment Branch (EAB) I designed and perform pilot

exposure studies and assessments in the field of silica, carbon
nanotubes and asbestos exposure, identified potential occupationally
exposed populations, updated analytical methods for field monitoring
and lab analysis and performed on-site field sampling efforts to
characterize workers exposure.

2010 to 2013

Environmental Scientist at Cira and Associates LLC.

I completed numerous indoor air quality investigations and remediation

projects to mitigate the impacts of microorganisms, mineral fibers,
radon, lead and volatile organics on residents and inhabitant’s health
and safety. I collected air quality real-time data, prepare samples for
laboratory analysis and wrote reports documenting results and
recommended technical solutions for mold removal and asbestos
abatement. My environmental remediation projects focused on leakage
of petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, heavy metals and
polychlorinated biphenyls from above and underground storage tanks.

2008 to 2010

Graduate Research and Teacing Assistant in Environmental

Biology at West Virginia University (WVU).

As a graduate assistant, I taught, tutored and graded students’ tests for

WVU General Biology and Life Science Laboratories (BIOL 101 &
103). I was also a frequent guest lecturer for botany, biology, zoology,
cellular and molecular biology classes. As a principal investigator in
the forest soil chemistry laboratory, I analyzed samples using numerous
molecular techniques: Chemical Purification & Characterization
(NMR, IR, HRMS, HPLC, FID, PID, ECD, and Optical rotation),
organic volatile and organic semi-volatile contaminants by mass
spectrometry.

Leadership Style

I firmly believe leadership in the industrial hygiene industry is about making scientific knowledge available
to the health and safety professionals and present it in an accessible language that can quickly be
understood and related to. My goal as a board director will be to cultivate a curious and confident
industrial hygienist archetype, who can marvel at his own achievements at the end of a job well done.

Contributions

My contributions are in the field of industrial hygiene research and teaching.

Research (5 published publications in pier-reviewed papers, including Journal of Occupational and

Environmental Hygiene.

I also won the following AIHA Awards:

1. Fellows SIG Best Student Poster form the American Industrial Hygienist Association (AIHA) at the

2. Protective Clothing and Equipment Committee Best Student Poster form the American Industrial
Hygienist Association (AIHA) at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Expo (AIHce EXP),
May 2019.

During my doctoral program, I served as an assistant in the Industrial Hygienist Sampling and Analysis class
(IHS 725) and experience all aspects of teaching graduate students, including delivering two hours
lectures, proctoring, and grading exams. During this time, I learned about my potential to become a
dedicated professor. For the last four years as a principal investigator at Center for Disease Control and
Prevention I was invited to deliver numerous academic presentations of my research topics due to my
ability to create an interactive, intellectually stimulating classroom environment. I like to prepare myself
for teaching by reviewing lectures and laboratory procedures and performing lab experiments and
assignments before the students attempt it.
I am also a member of AIHA Emergency Response Planning Committee, Sampling and Laboratory Analysis
Committee, and Environmental Issues Committee.

Strengths

I am the champion of my workplace health and safety (2019!).

AIHA Strategic Plan Advancement

As a technological biochemist, I will help with the Advancement and Dissemination of Knowledge since I
have a multilateral scientific perspective, and I can help explore, develop and deliver cutting-edge
educational resources to advance the profession of industrial hygiene.
