1. A vertical plate having a height of 0.75 m and 1.0 m wide is maintained at a constant
temperature of 170oC and is exposed to room air at 105oC temperature and at one
atmosphere. Calculate:
(i) Mean heat transfer coefficient,
(ii) Rate of heat transfer per unit width of the plate.
2. Water at 50oC enters 50 mm diameter and 4.0 m long tube with a velocity of 0.8 m/s.
The tube wall is maintained at a constant temperature of 90oC. Determine the heat
transfer coefficient and the total amount of heat transferred if exit water temperature
is 70oC. (Assume the flow is fully developed)
4. Ethylene glycol with temperature of 40oC and velocity of 5.0 m/s flows over the flat
plate having the dimensions of 50 cm by 50 cm and the plate was maintained at 100o
C temperature. Determine
(a) The hydrodynamic and thermal boundary layer thickness at the trailing edge.
(6 marks)
(b) The local heat flux and wall shear stress at the trailing edge.
(6 marks)
(c) The heat transfer per unit length of the plate.
(3 marks)
