WEEK 1

 Amable M. Aguiluz Sr. – Built AMA Group of Companies. Auditor General & National Treasurer
during term of Diosdado Macapagal.
 October 20, 1980 – The son, Dr. Amable R. Aguiluz V (ARAV), established AMA Institute of
Computer Studies.
 Shaw Boulevard – Original location, offered EDP Fundamentals, Basic Programming &
Technology Career courses.
 June 1981 – AMACC launched 4 yr. degree course in BSCS, first to be offered in the country.
 13-600 students (1983) & 2000 students (1985) – surge of student population
 Makati (1983) – First campus of AMACC
 Project 8, QC – Second campus.
 AMA Computer Learning Center (ACLC-1987) – Established to offer short courses in
programming & 2 yr technical vocational courses.
 16 company owned & 100 franchised learning centers – ACLC branches
 1987 – AMA Basic Ed was formed, pre-school to HS. Now known as St. Augustine Int’l School, has
8 branches in MM, Laguna, Cebu, Bacolod & Davao
 1996 – AMA Telecommunications & Electronics Learning Center (AMATEL) – first telecom school
now called AMA Int’l Institute of Technology (AIIT), has branch in Cubao, Laguna & Mindoro
 1998- ABE Int’l Business College offer HRM, BA & Computer Courses. 25 branches, affiliated with
UK and offers Int’l diploma & practicum.
 Los Angeles, California; Manama, Bahrain; Bangladesh; China & HK – Int’l branch of AMA.
 2000 – AMAES launched no less than 14 branches set up nationwide.
 2000 – Own manpower placement agency, INFOTECH Professional Services Inc.
 2002- Maritime Ed, Medicine, Allied Health Courses.
 St. Augustine School of Nursing (SASN), Norwegian Maritime Academy (NMA), AMA Schools of
Medicine & Nursing – IT- based curricula.
 AMAES – umbrella of AMA schools w/ more than 200 campuses worldwide.
 150 000 professionals – gainfully employed local & overseas.
 August 20, 2001 – AMA granted University status by CHED, a first ISO- certificated computer
institution in Philippines.

 VISION
To become the pioneer of the first full quality online education in the Philippines, catering to
anyone who wishes to advance their careers and to obtain their diplomas, by continuously
learning anytime and anywhere.

 MISSION
AMA University Online aspires to provide an equally holistic, relevant, accurate, quality and
globally-recognized IT-based education encompassing all levels and discipline to be delivered
fully through an easily accessible online platform for any hopeful learner from anywhere in the
Philippines and abroad with the aim to unveil and foster the potential of future professionals
and leaders responsive to the needs of science and the international community thus realizing
their worth as productive members of society for the honor and glory of God Almighty.

 OBJECTIVES
- To provide quality undergraduate courses relevant to the students’ future careers as
practitioners of their chosen degree for the further advancement of society.
- To develop free, accessible, engaging and challenging educational materials such as
supplementary videos, course modules and examinations to aid the learners in their
constant pursuit of knowledge.
- To establish an online community encouraging frequent and effective communication
between the mentors, instructors, the students and the helpdesk.
- To provide relevant subjects and lessons and distribute them through a single online portal.
- To produce globally competitive graduates who will be professionally competent, morally
upright, and socially responsible contributors to national development.

WEEK 3

 Academic Load – Undergraduate = min 3 subjects, max 8 subjects per term. Graduate = min 2,
max 4 subjects. May enroll in 1 subject upon submission & approval with reason.
 Per Term Residency – At least 50 days before allowed to request for grade slip & enroll next
term.
 Overload – only graduating students but not exceeding 3 units. Must seek approval of dean first.
 Course Prerequisite – May not be waived except in meritorious case. Allowed to enroll the latter
course, without having passed/earned credit for prerequisite course with authorization of dean.
May be taken simultaneous with latter course if graduating.
 Second Degree Program – Degree holders will be given credit in all equivalent GE & preparatory
courses.
 Substitution of Courses – When curriculum has been superseded by a new curriculum; Conflict
of hours; Prescribed elective courses can be substituted with equivalent courses. Must involve
courses within same department/allied; Same number of units; Recommended by head of dept.
 Adding & Dropping of Courses – Secure grade slip before allowed to take additional courses.
Dropping is allowed within 1st 50 days of student’s enrollment.
 Term Extension – Allowed other than Practicum & Research Courses. May avail extension
program twice. May not add courses until finished active term.
 Removal Exam – Grades in subject is less than 50% but can still pass with final exam. This allows
1 additional attempt in final exam. Graduate program, same rule but grade should be 75%.
 Shifting to Another Program – Must accomplish application form approved by dean. If one
cannot meet academic requirement of new course, subject to scholastic delinquency policy.
