THREE MARKS SPIRITUAL OVERCOMERS

The word here for overcomes, nikaoin the Greek, it means to conquer, it means to win, it means to defeat, it
means to gain victory.
pagtatagumpay.

Sabi nga sa Romans 8:37. Tayo ay higit pa sa mapagtagumpay.

I. FAITH (PANANAMPALATAYA)
Basa: v. 1, 4, 5
FAITH IN CHRIST IS THE KEY POINT OF OUR FAITH! FAITH HAS A CLEARLY DEFINED OBJECT
(5:1, 5), THAT IS CHRIST! To believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, means that you
entrust your eternal destiny and your right standing before God not to anything in yourself,
including your faith, but entirely to Jesus and His substitutionary death on the cross for your sins.
You believe that He paid the debt to God that you owe. Your faith rests completely upon the
person and work of Jesus Christ.

1. Let us notice the cause: Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God.
Yaong ating pananamapalatay. Yon din ang sinasabi ng v. 5.
The Greek verb (perfect tense) indicates an action that took place in the past with continuing results in
the present and future. In other words, John is emphasizing that faith is the result or evidence of the new
birth, not the cause of it.

Lets read John 1: 12-13, 3: 3 – 8 , John 5:21, James 1: 18, I Peter 1:3, 23 (isa-isahang ipaliwanag)

NEW BIRTH: The new birth must be the starting point of any relationship with God. You can go to church all
your life, you can be religious and moral, and you can tithe your money to the church. But none of that will
get you into heaven.

Saang particular area tayo nagtatagumpay sabi ng BIblia. FAITH HAS A CLEARLY OBSERVABLE
RESULT—OVERCOMING THE WORLD (5:4, 5).
v. 4, 5 Sa sanglibutan
I Cor 1: 18 – 21

II. LOVE (PAG-IBIG)

v. 1, 2, 3
New birth, regeneration not only brings us into a faith relationship with God, it brings us
into a love relationship with God and God's own people. We enter into a love relationship with the
Father and with His beloved children.

We love him, because he first loved us.

Efeso 4: 31 – 32
Colossians 3: 8 – 14
READ: I John 2: 7 – 10 , 3: 14 – 17

If there is evidence that a person is a child of God through the new birth, then he is my brother,
even if I disagree with him about certain doctrinal matters. I must accept him, just as Christ
accepted me (Rom. 15:7).

III. OBEDIENCE

John uses the word “commandments” three times. As we’ve seen, John is not saying that
believers obey God perfectly. Rather, he is looking at the overall direction of our lives. A
Christian’s life should be marked by obedience out of a heart of love for God. When a child of God
sins, he confesses his sin so that he can be restored to fellowship with God (1:9; 2:1). The person
who claims to be born again, but who is not concerned about a lifestyle of disobedience to God’s
Word, should examine himself to see if he really is in the faith (1 John 3:4-10; 2 Cor. 13:5).

v. 2, 3. What kind of obedience, LOVING OBEDIENCE, NOT A BURDENSOME OBEDIENCE

Read v. 3. The word keep or tinutupad comes from the greek word: threw tereo tay-reh'-o
We don't just do them, this word means regard them, we protect them. And that is to say we've gone from
action to attitude, we...we not only do what God commands us to do but we guard what He commands us to
do as a sacred treasure. We're eager to do that. We don't find that burdensome at all.
You have the ACTION OF OBEDIENCE
You have the ATTITUDE OF OBEDIENCE
You have the DESIRE OF OBEDIENCE

First, God’s commandments are not burdensome because we have a new nature that has the power to obey.
Second, God’s commandments are not burdensome because they are the commands of God, not of man.
Third, God’s commandments are not burdensome because they are given and received in the context of love.

Rom 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that
form of doctrine which was delivered you.
CORRUPTIONS OF SIN

I. Corruption of the Flesh

A. Let’s look on the idea of flesh in the Bible
1. The term "flesh" becomes the expression of that fact; and every time it is used in Scripture in a
moral sense it refers to the corruption of our entire beings, without any distinction between our visible and
invisible parts—body and mind.
Verses to Read
a. "the flesh" is contrasted with "the spirit" or the new nature (Rom. 8:5-6; I Cor. 2:11; Gal.
5:17).
b. When the apostle declared, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh), dwelleth no good
thing" (Rom. 7:18), he had reference to far more than his body with its appetites, namely, his entire natural
man, with all its faculties, powers and propensities. The whole was polluted, and therefore nothing good could
issue from him until divine grace was imparted.
c. Read John 3: 3 – 6. Thus it is clear that when Christ declared, "That which is born of the
flesh is flesh" He signified that that which is propagated by fallen man is depraved, that whatever comes into
this world by ordinary generation is carnal and corrupt, causing the heart itself to be deceitful above all things
and desperately wicked
