Capacitor color coding for different kinds of capacitors

2. Capacitor values using codes

Explanation:

By using the values of reading the capacitor in the picture from the first
number, we could arrive with the corresponding numerical values for every
combination of the colors in the table.

Following the example above:

Ex:
color 1 – red
color 2 – blue
color 3 – yellow
color 4 – gold

In simplified form it is: 264 with tolerance of ±5%. But if we were to further
elaborate this, it only means that the corresponding values for the first 2 colors
signifies the first 2 significant digits in the scientific notation of the capacitance with
corresponding values of 2 for red and 6 for blue. The third color tells about the power
that will be raised to the number 10. Lastly, the 4th color represents the discrepancies
in the value obtained. This is because manufacturers don’t really produce capacitors
with exact capacitances. This value stands for the margin of error in the measurement
that will take place and should be accounted for.

Capacitance of the capacitor with colors: red-blue-yellow-gold:

26 x 10^4 pF @ 5% || 260 000 pF @ 5%
