POLYGON AND ITS HISTORY

Polygon are closed plane figures formed by three or more line segments. It is classified
by the number of sides.

Types of Polygon:

1. Concave polygons - at least one angle measures more than 180º and at least one of the
diagonals is outside the shape of the polygon.

2. Convex polygon - All of its angle are less than 180º. All of the diagonals are internal.

 Equilateral Polygon - All sides are equal/congruent.

 Equiangular polygon - All angles are equal/congruent.

Classifications of Polygon:

1. Triangle - 3 sides
2. Quadrilateral - 4 sides
3. Pentagon - 5 sides
4. Hexagon - 6 sides
5. Heptagon - 7 sides
6. Octagon - 8 sides
7. Nonagon - 9 sides
8. Decagon - 10 sides

History

 7th century B.C. polygon was pentagram (star polygon)

 14th century the first known systematic study of non-convex polygons by Thomas
Bradwardine.
 In 1592 - Geoffrey Shepard generalized the idea of polygons to complex plane.
