Topic: Perimeter of Polygons

Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:

a. explain the concept of perimeter

b. determine the different kinds of polygons
c. compute the perimeter of different polygons
d. show honesty in solving the different problems

I. Engage

CLG. Naming Polygons

The pupils will be grouped according to their CLG. Each group will be given ten envelopes which has a polygon inside. The envelopes
are numbered 1 to ten. The groups will open the envelopes according to their number. The fastest group to give the correct name of the
polygon will gain a point. The first group to earn 10 points will be entitled the winner.

II. Explore

The pupils will measure the sides of the polygons inside the envelope. From the measured sides, ask the pupils to get the perimeter of
each polygon.
Ask five pupils to explain their work and how they arrived to their answers. Base from the process of their answer, what is perimeter?
What is the formula in solving the perimeter of the different polygons?

III. Explain

The perimeter of a polygon is the sum of the measurements of all its sides.
P= perimeter
l= length
w= width
s= sides of a square

P of a rectangle P of a square
P= 2l + 2w P= 4s

For other polygons, to get the P just simply add all sides.
*More examples of finding the perimeter of polygons. (Triangle, Quadrilateral, Pentagon, Hexagon, Heptagon, Octagon, Nonagon,
Decagon and Dodecagon)
*Note that if the given polygon is a regular one, all sides have the equal measurements.

IV. Extend

Fastest Mind First. Give the perimeter of the given polygons.

V. Evaluate

1. A square with side of 25cm.

2. A regular hexagon whose side is 5 cm.
3. A rectangle 17m by 11m.
4. The perimeter of a regular pentagon is 215 cm. Find the length of each side.
5. James always jogs around his rectangular pool, 10m by 6m. If he jogs around it 5 times, what is the distance covered by James?
6. When the side of a square is increased by 2cm, its perimeter becomes 40 cm. What is the length of the original square?
7. When the side of a square is reduced by 7cm, the perimeter becomes 84. What is the perimeter of the original square?
8. The length of a rectangle is 64 cm. Its width is 13cm more than half its length. What is the perimeter of the rectangle?
9. The base of an isosceles triangle is 15 more than one-third of the length of the leg. If a leg measures 57 dm, find the perimeter of the triangle.
