Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

Good Morning class, Good Morning Teacher.

May I request everyone to please stand and start our Prayer:

class with a prayer. Ms./Mr. ___________ please lead the Our most gracious and
prayer. heavenly Father, thank you
so much for the blessings
that you’ve given to us. We
thank you for giving us the
knowledge and the strength
that we used each and every
day. Before we start our
class, we seek for your
guidance and your blessings
dear lord. Forgive us in all our
sins. This is all we ask in the
name of the father our lord.
Amen.

Okay class. Please take your seat. Students will sit down (thank
you sir).
Good Morning once again! How are you today? Good morning sir, we’re good
and we’re okay sir.
Okay Good. By the way, I am Jovert G.Macapepe aka
“vert” your teacher in math today. And you will be my
grade 7 students. Inside in my class, you should follow a
certain rules;
1. Raise your hand if you have questions, concerns,
additional information and clarifications.
2. Cell phones are strictly prohibited during the class Yes, sir
hour.
3. When your name is called for participation, you are
required to share your ideas. Is that okay?

B. Motivation

Everybody please stand. Stretch your arms and take a Students are dancing.
deep breath. Now, let’s do have a Tiktok dance so that
you will not feel sleepy.

Before you sit, arrange your chairs properly. I want to

check your attendance first. Say “Present” if your name is
called.

And now, I have here a set of pictures. And I want you Students are guessing.
to guess on what inside in the pictures or what will be
your insights about the picture.

(Presenting Pictures)
Perimeter, Sir.
What do you think our topic for this morning? Anyone?

Okay very good, John.

C. Lesson Proper

In this lesson, were gonna learn about the important

concept of Geometry called Perimeter. Students are participating.

Perimeter is just a fancy matter that means the

distance or length around a shape.

The perimeter of a polygon is that distance around the

polygon. It is the sum of the lengths of all its sides.

What exactly does the distance around the shape

mean? Anyone?

Okay.

Well, distance or length is a 1 dimensional quantity

that we can measure the units like cm, in, and miles. That
means, is also a 1 dimensional quantity that we can
measure the unit about the length.

For example,

The perimeter of the shape would it be 10 or it could Students are actively listening
10cm or instead 25 or it could be 25miles. The units are and participating.
really important when you’re talking about the perimeter.
Okay, what exactly do we mean about around the
shape? Some of them would be short and some of them
would be very long.

Well, Perimeter means the absolute shortest distance

possible around the shape. That would be the distance
should get if you trace the path exactly around the border
or edge of the shape.

Another example, Students are actively listening

and participating.
A good way to see what perimeter is, is to imagine that
you could walk right along the edge of the shape. Like
this 5 sides of polygon. Imagine you are starting walking a
line/ edge of the polygon until you got all the way back to
the point that you started from.

The total distance you travel would be the perimeter of

that shape. In this case, if the length of each side of the
polygon is 10cm, the total length you would travel along
all 5 sides would add up 50 meters.

Another good way to see what perimeter is, is to

imagine that you can take a shape, like this square and
break it one of this corner. After that, you can unfold the Students are actively listening
shape to form the straight line, the length of this line and participating.
would be the perimeter of the shape. By doing this, will
help you understand why the perimeter is a 1 dimensional
quantity.

Discussion:

Formula:

The perimeter P of a triangle with sides a, b, c is given

by;

P= a + b + c
Students are actively listening
The perimeter P of a rectangle with length l and width and participating.
w is given by;

P= 2l + 2w

Since, the sides of a regular polygon are of equal

lengths its perimeter is the number of sides times the
length of a side.

The perimeter P of a regular polygon with n sides each

having a length of s is given by;

P= ns

Problem and Solution Examples:

1. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)

passed an ordinance which orders that the Students are actively listening
allowable size of a triangular firecracker should not and participating.
be more than 8cm in perimeter. If a fire cracker of
a certain manufacturer measures 2cm, 2.5cm, and
3cm, does it pass the ordinance?

Solution:

The perimeter of the triangle is;

P=a+b+c
= 2cm + 2.5cm + 3cm
P = 7.5cm
Students are actively listening
2. Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose and participating.
dimensions are 15.3cm and 24.8cm.
(Note: Length is always greater than the width).

Solution:

The perimeter of the rectangle is;

P = 2l + 2w
= 2(24.8cm) + 2(15.3cm)
= 49.6cm + 30.6cm
P = 80.2cm

3. The old Philippine 2- peso coin is in the shape of a and participating.
regular decagon. If its side is 10.5mm long, what is
its perimeter?

Solution:

The perimeter of the regular decagon is;

P = ns
= 10 (10.5mm)
P = 105mm

4. If the base of an isosceles triangle is 18cm and its

perimeter is 67cm, find the length of each leg.
(Note that an isosceles triangle has two legs
congruent).
Given:
Students are actively listening
P= 67cm and b= 18cm. Find length? and participating.

P=l+l+b
67cm = 2l + 18cm
67cm – 18cm = 2l
49cm = 2l
l = 24.5cm
D. Generalization Students are actively listening

presented.

E. Evaluation

From our discussion earlier, what would be the

formula to be used when we find the perimeter of a
heptagon when is it measure 15m each side.

IV. Assignment
Part I.
Part II.

1. The football field at the park down the street is in the shape of a rectangle. Two
sides measure 4kmm and the other two sides measure 2km. What is the total
perimeter of the field?

2. The gazebo in Gonzaga’s backyard is in the shape of an octagon. Each side of

the octagon measures 4 feet. What is the total perimeter of the gazebo?
