III. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Drill Good morning Grade 3! Good morning teacher,

Before we start in our class let's have a

prayer first

Is anyone absent today?

None, Maam
I'm glad to hear that!

Now, let’s sing the song “What is

Rectangle, what is Square”

B. Reviewing previous Class, yesterday we learned about

lesson Routine and Non-routine Problems in
Conversion of Common in unit measure.
To test how you understand our
discussion yesterday, Let's try this.
1. 5 meters
1. How long is the school gate in meters if
it is 500 centimeters?

2. An adult chicken weighs 2 kilograms. 2. 2000 grams

How much does it weigh in grams?

3. Nong Jose will buy 3000 milliliters of

3. 3 Liters
Gasoline a day. How many liters is it?

C. Establishing a purpose Game: " I have"... Who has?..."

for the lesson
Now, let's have a game! This game is
( Motivation) called " I have”...Who has..."

14 cards will be distributed randomly,

each card have different shapes and area
assigned. The first card will be called by
the teacher, then pupil who has the
correct answer will read thier card aload.

Students must listen for their turn and try

not to break the chain. When the cain
reaches the student with last card. The
game is over.

IV. Presenting examples/ Today, lets talk about the area of

instances of the new rectangle and square
lesson
What is Area?
(Introduction)
- defined as the space accupied by flat
shape or the surface of an object.

First, we'll find the area of rectangle.

What Are Rectangles?

Rectangles are flat shapes with 4 straight

sides, 4 square corners and 2 parallel
lines

Mrs. Domingo is a fruit vendor in Santa

Irene. She displayed variety of fruits

1. What can you see in the picture? 1. Variety of fruits

2. What fruits are there? 2. Apple, orange, mango
You can see that different types of fruits
are placed in different bins.

3. What is the shape of the fruit stand? 3. rectangles.

Inside of the fruit stand there are different

types of fruits place in different bins.

4. What is the shape of the bins?

Supposed that every bins is 1 cm and

4. Square
there are 8 bins in a fruit stand? How
many cm is the fruit stand?

So , the area of the of the fruit stand is 8

cm.
5. Yes.
5. Is there any way how to find the area of
the fruit stand?

Supposed we have the side of every bins

which is 1 cm.

To find the area of a rectangle, multiply

the width by the length.

A=w×l

The fruit stand has a width of 2cm and

has a length of 4 cm.
A= 2 m × 4 m

= 8 m²

Let's try another

This rectangle has a width of 2ins and a

length of 3 ins

3 ins × 2 ins= 6 cm2

Let's multiply the width by the length to
find the area.

3 ins × 2 ins= 6 cm2

Find the area of this object.

9 cm × 3 cm = 27 cm²
9 cm × 3 cm = 27 cm²
3 ins

2 ins

8 ins × 12 ins = 96 ins²

8 ins × 12 ins = 96 ins²

Next, we'll find the area of square

What Are Squares?

Squares has all equal side.

Let’s try the bins of the fruit stand.

To find area of the of square we have to
multiply the side by side

A= S × S

The bins has all same side which is is 1

m

A=1m×1m
5 ins
= 1m²

Let's try another

A= S × S

A = 5 ins × 5 ins = 25 ins² = 1m²

= 5 ins × 5 ins = 25 ins²

6 cm
A=S×S 6 cm x 6 cm= 36 cm²

A= 6 cm x 6 cm

= 36 cm²

A= S × S 7 cm x 7 cm = 49 cm2

A= 7 cm × 7 cm

= 49 cm
3 cm × 3 cm = 9 cm2

The length of each side is 3.

So to find the area, we multiply 3 by 3.

3 cm × 3 cm = 9 cm2

That's the same answer we get from

counting each square.

V. Discussing New Activity 1: Measure Me
Concepts and practicing
new skills Direction: Find the6 mmeasurements of
every sample given.
(Modeling)

4 m 8 m x 4 m = 32 m2

8m

6 m x 6 m = 36 m2

5 m x 5 m = 25 m2
Activity 2 Let's Complete it

Direction: Complete the chart, give the

lacking answer.

Figure Length Width Area Figure Side Area

Rectan 6m 3m Square A 7m 49 m2
gle A
Square B 4m 16 m2
Rectan 4m 2m
gle B

Figure Side Area

Square A 7m

Square B 4m

VI. Developing Mastery Activity 3: Let's try this

(leads to Formative
Assessment) Direction: Find the area of the rectangle
and square using grid.
(Guided Practice)
Note: 1cm

1cm

1. Find the area of the square whereas

the side is 4 cm
1. 4 cm x 4 cm = 16 cm2

2. Find the area of the rectangle having 5 2. 5 cm x 2 cm = 10 cm2

cm length and 2cm width.

VII. Making Generalization

and Abstraction about the To find the area of5the
cm rectangle, multiply
Lesson the length to its width.

A=LxW

5 cm x 3 cm = 15 cm2 cm
5 cm x 3 cm = 15 cm2

cm
To find the area of the square, multiply
the side by itself.

A=SxS

3 cm x 3 cm = 9 cm2

3 cm

3 cm x 3 cm = 9 cm2

Valuing Do you see the flower box that we have Yes

in front of our classroom?
Rectangle
What is the shape of our flower box?

The flower box has the width of 2m and

the length of 7m How much is the area of 14 m²
the flower box?

Is it possible for one pupil to clean that No

flower box in a short time?If I ask to?

What areyou going to do to get that flower

box cleaned up quickly? Cooperate

Yes, in order to do the task quickly we

have to cooperate.

VIII. Finding practical Activity 1. Color Grid

application of concept and
skills in daily living Direction: The class will be divided into 2
groups. Each group will color the
(Independent Practice) rectangle/square based on the area given
in the paper grid. The 1 square
centimeter. Use crayons in coloring the
grid.

1. 25 sq. cm

2. 15 sq. cm

Activity 2.

Direction: Calculate the area of the given

figure.

6 m x 2 m = 12 m2
6m

3m

2m

2m
5 cm x 5 cm = 25 cm2

5 cm

3 m x 2 m = 6 m2

IV. Evaluating learning Direction: Solve the following. Show your

solution.
( Evaluation)
1. Sophia wants new flormat for her room.
Her room was 8 m length and a with of 4 1. 4 m × 8 m= 36 m²
m. How much floormat does she needs to
buy to cover her intire room.?

2.

2. 3 m x 5 m =15 m²
3. 9 m × 9 m = 81 m²

3.Ian have a small garden . Her garden

measures 9cm on each side. How big is
his garden?

4 4 . 4 cm × 4 cm = 16 cm

3m

5m

X. Assignment Direction: At your home practice solving

the following

1. Study the floor plan below. Find the

floor area in the following

a. Kitchen

b. Kan anan

c. Sala
