Teaching is more than knowing the content; it also involves knowing the
pedagogical processes of presenting the information to students who naturally have
varied interests, abilities, and backgrounds. Thus, to effectively teach students new
concepts, you have to constantly think about the best way to present the information.
Students bring differences in intelligence and interest, in ethnicity and race, in culture
and gender.
In the days when most people did not go to school, education was a simple
matter that was undertaken by parents and older people as a natural extension of the
rest of their lives. It did not require any knowledge beyond people's experience and
memories of growing up. In the past, education was based on books and lectures,
students would have to spend hours in libraries looking through books for a project or
research now, students were sat down and told to memorize the factual information of
subjects. Now that curriculum expanded and is making students work in a group to
compare, contrast, and discuss those topics to increase their knowledge and work on
their communication skills which will come in more helpful in their future rather than
knowing facts. its iPads and websites. With the huge advantages of having the Internet
at our fingertips, we can change those hours of surfing through books into 30 seconds.
The way our children absorb information is undergoing a rapid transformation. Images,
video, sound bites, tweets and interactive apps are just some of the ways through which
they learn nowadays. One major difference that has changed through the curriculum in
schools is teaching students skills instead of content. The main reason is the changing
world around us. With the many changes in society, the curriculum is adjusted to
change with time. In the old days, students would get smacked with a ruler (or uway) for
misbehaving but as times change, teachers and students grow into a new curriculum
and new requirements.
Nowadays, most of the teachers have more responsibilities compared to the
teachers in the past. On the other hand, teachers in the past were holding less
responsibility than nowadays. For example, teachers in the past, they were just teaching
students, give homework to them and return home after school, and in terms of
discipline, they were more strict than today. I remember when I was in grade 1, one of
my classmates have punished by my teacher when he returned late after recess, the
“uway” landed on his left eye. The incident was reported by the parents to the higher
ones, and so the teacher got suspended and was petitioned to leave our place, and
that’s how she got transferred to other school. Moreover, what type of education we
have in the past is what I admired most because we do learn in an effective way
because of some disciplinary actions. Students may learn today through gadgets, it may
have a positive impact, especially, for younger children, below preschool age. The
gadgets may help them to stimulate their senses and imagination. Additionally, it may
help to promote listening ability, learning of sounds and also speaking ability.

Children aren’t born with social skills – they have to learn them, just like they
have to learn to read and write. Giving our child chances to play with other children is a
great way for him to develop the skills he needs to get on with others. Most children
have one or two areas that they don’t enjoy as much, or aren’t as good at. As your child
goes through secondary school, we could talk together about whether it’s an option to
drop a subject he isn’t interested in. Our child’s teacher can also help us and our child
work to this out.
