Teaching Dates and Quarter THIRD
Time QUARTER

I. OBJECTIVES The learners should be able to:

1. Infer on how black and colored objects affect the ability to absorb
heat.
2. Explore how light behaves and observe its effects on objects.
3. Relate the ability of a material to block, absorb, or transmit light
for use.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding on how black and colored
objects affect the ability to absorb heat.
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to perform the activities sensibly.
C. Learning Competencies The learner should be able to describe the characteristics of black and
Write the LC code for each colored objects. S5FE-IIId-4
II. CONTENT Effects of Light and Sound, Heat and Electricity
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages
2. Learner’s Materials pages flash lights, colored cellophane, construction paper, answer sheet
3. Textbook pages The New Science Links page-244

III. PROCEDURES
A. Engagement
DRILL
 Reviewing the previous Give an example of a materials good conductor. For every correct
lesson or presenting new answer, the pupil may open a covered letter to reveal and guest the
lesson. mystery word.
C O N D U C T O R S

After revealing the mystery word, ask learners why are conductors
important?

REVIEW:
Recall the previous lesson. Materials that are conductors and
insulators.
Show pictures of materials that are conductors.
-aluminum, iron, copper, gold, silver
Show pictures of materials that are non-conductors
-paper, clay, glass
Show pictures of materials that are insulators
-plastic, wood, cotton

 Establishing a purpose for the MOTIVATION:

lesson Who among you have been to a Safari?
Would you like to go on a Safari?
Come on and watch this interactive song video and identify the black
and colored objects found in there.(“Color Songs - Let's Spell
Black”).

What black objects are found in a Safari?

What are their characteristics?

 Presenting examples/ Show 3 colored cards to the class (red, blue, yellow).
instances of the lesson Choose the color that you want based to the cards.
Group yourselves according to the following colors ( red, blue,
yellow )
Ask each group to go in front.
Why did you choose that color?

B. Exploration From the previous groupings, let us have a group activity.

Group Activity: “How Do I Get My Color?”

Problem: What are the characteristics of colored objects?
Materials: 3 pieces of colored cellophane (red, blue, green)
3 flashlights,4 pieces of construction paper (white, red, blue, green
Procedures
* Cover the head of each flashlight with cellophane.
*Turn on the flashlights and point them at the white paper.
* Then point the flashlight with the other paper.
Red light – green paper
Green light – blue paper
Blue light – red paper
* Repeat step 2 and use the 3 different colors together.
C. Explanation

Group reporting
 Discussing new concepts and Sharing of results of the activity.
practicing new skills #1 Questions
1. What colors do you see?__________________
2. What happens when you looked at the papers through the different
colored cellophane?________
3. What color is formed when you combined all the three colors?
______________
4. What color of light beams did you combine to produce a white
light?______________________________
V. Conclusion:
I therefore conclude that ________________________________.
 Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2 Color Conductors:
colors that are good conductors of heat:
- Black, navy blue and other dark colors.
QUESTION:
Have you ever noticed how quickly you get hot when you are
wearing a black t-shirt on a summer day?

Cool Colors:
- wearing white or light colored clothing outside help you stay cool
on hot days.
 Developing mastery (Leads to
QUESTION:
formative assessment
Would a white car or black car on a summer day be hotter?
Which do you think would be hotter to touch?
EXAMPLE: shirt with a different color each side(white and black)
QUESTION: On a hot day, which side of the shirt would keep you
cool?

D. Elaboration/Extension What insight have you learned about the importance of colors in our
environment?
 Finding practical applications of
concepts and skills in daily
living What did you learn today?
What are the characteristics of black and colored objects?
 Making generalizations and
abstractions about the lesson
Objects that are black or other dark colors are more absorbent and
white and light objects are more reflective.
black object -it absorbs all the wavelengths in white light and
reflects none. The observable color of an object has to do with the
light wavelengths that are reflected from that object.

E. Evaluation Directions: Fill in the blanks with the correct words that will
complete the
thought of the paragraph.
A __________ object looks black because it ____________ all the
wavelengths in white and reflects ___________. The observable
color of an object has to do with the light ____________ that are
reflected from that object. A leaf is green because when white light
hits it, its atomic innards reflect all the __________ wavelengths
more than the other colors and bounce them at our eyes.
Answers: (black – absorbs – none –wavelengths – green)
