____

Signs of an Impending
Volcanic Eruption
1. Increase in the frequency of volcanic
quakes with rumbling sounds, occurrence
of volcanic tremors.
2. Increased steaming activity; change in
color of steam emission from white to gray
due to entrained ash.
3. Crater glow due to presence of magma
at or near the crater.
4. Ground swells (or inflation), ground tilt
and ground fissuring due to magma
intrusion.
5. Localized landslides, rockfalls and
landslides from the summit area not
attributable to heavy rains.
6. Noticeable increase in the extent of
drying up of vegetation around the
volcano's upper slopes.
7. Increase in the temperature of hot
springs, wells (e.g., Bulusan and Canlaon)
and crater lake (e.g., Taal) near the
volcano.
8. Noticeable variation in the chemical
content of springs, crater lakes within the
vicinity of the volcano.
9. Drying up of springs/wells around the
volcano.
10. Development of new thermal areas
and/or reactivation of old ones;
appearance of solfataras.
● Solfatara is a volcanic area or vent
which yields only sulphur vapors, steam
and the like. It represents the stages of
the volcanic activity.
What to do before a
volcanic eruption?
a
1. Prepare all necessary things to
bring once evacuation is needed.
2. Store as much food, water, light
sources and batteries that are very
useful in case of emergency.
3. Volcanic eruptions have ashfalls so
be prepared for masks or anything to
cover nose and mouth.
4. Prioritize the safety of kids before
other things.
What to do during
volcanic eruption?
1. Avoid all low-lying places bacause
lava flows and mudflows are more
likely to pass here.
2. Seek cover in case of ash falls and
rock falls.
3. Use masks and cover your mouth
and nose to avoid breathing in ashes.
4. If you are inside a house; close all
doors and windows to avoid ashes
from getting inside.
5. Always stay indoors.
6. Stay in the evacuation center
until further instructions.
7. Keep a watchful eye on the kids
because they might be tempted to
go out and see what's going on
outside.
What to do after
volcanic eruption?
1. Go back to your house but leave the
kids behind someone who can take care
of them while you check your house.
2. Clean everything around and check all
damages incurred.
3. Use masks while cleaning ashes and
other debris.
4. Wait for further announcements related
to the volcano activities.
5. Make sure that your house is still safe
