Vitaliano Agan Avenue Intersection

Bea Claudel S. Opaon, Jdulia Claire Ruiz, John Lloyd Juano

CE 152 (CE PROJECT 1)

1. Problem:
Heavy traffic and there is no existing proper traffic signal to reduce traffic
congestion.
2. Objective
Generally, the aim of this study is to design a Rotary Intersection (Roundabout)
and Traffic Signal System in Vitaliano Agan Avenue Intersection, Zamboanga City to
compare which design is more efficient.
Specifically, this study aimed:
1.To determine the traffic volume.
2.To determine which design is the most efficient in Vitaliano Agan Avenue
Intersection, Zamboanga City.
3. To reduce the delay and enhance the level of service (LOS) of the
intersection, especially during peak hours.
3. Significance

The significance of the study is to focus on the two geometric design: Four Phased
Signal System and Geometric Design of Roundabout, to compare which design is more
efficient in Vitaliano Agan intersection. The study promotes a design of continuous flow
of vehicles that can reduce delays and reducing the number and severity of conflict points.

CE 152 (CE PROJECT 1)

1. Problem:
Heavy traffic and there is no existing proper traffic signal to reduce traffic
congestion.

2. Objective
Generally, the aim of this study is to provide a proper signal system in Vitaliano
Agan Avenue Intersection, to reduce traffic congestion using highway capacity
manual, traffic signal manual and highway safety design standard manual (DPWH).
Specifically, this study aimed:
1. To determine the traffic volume
2. To create a proper traffic flow of moving vehicles during peak hour.

Effective Geometric Design of Roundabout

in Vitaliano Agan Avenue Intersection, Zamboanga City using PTV Vissim

Bea Claudel S. Opaon, Jdulia Claire Ruiz, John Lloyd Juano

CE 152 (CE PROJECT 1)

1. Objective
Generally, the aim of this study is to geometrically design a Rotary Intersection
(Roundabout) in Vitaliano Agan Avenue Intersection, Zamboanga City to reduce traffic
congestion.
Specifically, this study aimed:
1. To reduce the delay and enhance the level of service (LOS) of the
intersection, especially during peak hours.
2. To determine the influence of the designed roundabout to nearby
intersections (Gov. Camins and Sta. Cruz Flea Market intersection).
3. To carry out a model using PTV Vissim that will be used to present the flow
of traffic at designed roundabout and nearby intersections during peak hours.
2. Significance

The results of this study will be beneficial to the traffic flow through an intersection
more quickly, and with less congestion on approaching roads. Also, building a roundabout
is less expensive than using a traffic signal where long term costs and maintenance are
considered. Our proposed geometric model provides a solution to collisions and
congestions, especially during peak hours; promotes a continuous flow of vehicles that
can reduce delays and reducing the number and severity of conflict points.
