What is a corbell
A corbell is a weight-carrying structure, a type of bracket which is jutting
out or projecting from a wall and provides support to the structure placed on
it.
Corbelling.
It is the process where rows of corbels
gradually build a wall out from the vertical,
has long been used as a simple kind of
vaulting, for example in many Neolithic
chambered cairns, where walls are gradually
corbelled in until the opening can be spanned
by a slab.
Corbels may be individual pieces of stone,
separate from each other like brackets, or
they may be continuous courses of masonry.
What is a lintel
A lintel is a structural horizontal block that spans the space or opening between two
vertical supports. It can be a decorative architectural element, or a combined
ornamented structural item. It is
often found over portals, doors,
placed
windows and fireplaces.
across the openings like
doors, windows etc. in
buildings to support the load
from the structure above. The
width of the lintel beam is
equal to the width of the wall,
and the ends of it are built
into the wall. Lintels are
classified based on their
material of construction.
1. Timber Lintel
In olden days of construction, Timber lintels were mostly used. But
in hilly areas these are using. The main disadvantages with timber are
number of wooden pieces with the help of steel bolts which was shown
2. Stone Lintel
These are the most common type, especially where stone is
of its design. These are also provided over the openings in brick walls.
Stone lintel is provided in the form of either one single piece or more
needed.
Brick Lintel
These are used when the opening is less than 1m and lesser loads are
span. Bricks with frogs are more suitable than normal bricks because
frogs when filled with mortar gives more shear resistance of end joints
space is left length wise between adjacent bricks for the insertion of
the gaps.
Vertical stirrups of 6 mm diameter are provided in every 3rd vertical
Steel Lintel
These are used when the superimposed loads are heavy and openings
concrete or cladded with stone facing to keep the width same as width
of wall. When more than one units are placed side by side, they are
construction. These are suitable for all the loads and for any span. The

PIERS
Pier, in building construction, vertical loadbearing member such as
an intermediate support for adjacent ends of two bridge spans. In
foundations for large buildings, piers are usually cylindrical concrete
shafts, cast in prepared holes
BRICK JAALIS
A jali or jaali is a building element which is a perforated stone or latticed
screen, usually with an ornamental pattern
The jali helps in lowering the temperature by compressing the air through
the holes. Also when the air passes through these openings, its velocity
increases giving profound diffusion.
Other than this a brick jaali also enhances the look of a building. And
provides frontal shade in some cases
