12th Chinese Bridge Competition for High School Students

A letter from the organizing committee to the participant

Dear participant:

Welcome to 12th International Chinese Bridge Competition for High School students!

In order to ensure a successful participation in the competition and a favorable outcome, please read
the following carefully:

1. Organizing committee will provide the following:

a. Needed invitation for Visa application;
b. Roundtrip ticket to and from Beijing (October 18 – November 2, 2019). Organizers will
be responsible in picking up and sending you to the airport;
c. Accommodation, transportation and organization of related cultural activities during the
competition;
d. Insurance for any injury during the competition.
2. For your convenience, please prepare the following before the competition:
a. Make sure to have passport and visa (expenses will be shouldered by you)
b. Within 3 days after receiving the invitation, make sure to pass a scanned copy of the
following documents to chinesebridge-zxs@hanban.org :
i. Manually signed Letter of undertaking (Attachment 1)
ii. Manually filled-up and signed Receiving form (Attachment 2)
iii. Passport information
c. Prepare a performance showcasing your talent (not exceeding 2 minutes);
d. Prepare 1 to 2 pairs of your national costume, needed instruments for the performance,
props, and background music;
e. Prepare a self-introduction in Chinese not exceeding 100 characters (content must
include Chinese name and nationality)
f. Prepare a 90-second speech, must follow the following requirements:
i. Content must include a self-introductory sentence (with name, nationality, and
expectations to Chinese Bridge and to travelling to China);
ii. Theme: “Learning Chinese, Creating brighter future”
g. There is a family experience segment in the competition, which is anchored with the
principle of voluntariness. You may prepare a gift/souvenir from your country (we do
not recommend bringing a expensive gift or items that are not convenient to bring), you
may have a chance to exchange gifts with Chinese students;
h. Please download the “汉语桥俱乐部“ app (official app of the Chinese Bridge
Competition) from the Apple App Store or Android Playstore, the application will help
you in downloading or uploading any needed files and will keep you updated to the
events related to the competition;
i. Please learn how the sing the theme song of the Chinese Competition, “Chinese Bridge”
(you can download the song from the official website of Chinese Bridge);
 j. Please pay attention to the weather conditions and make preparations ahead of time.
The average temperature in Henan province during the month of October is 12-22
degree Celsius, and 9-19 degree Celsius on the city of Beijing;
k. Before you go to China, please purchase medical insurance in your country. If you suffer
any illness during your stay in China, you have to shoulder any medical expenses;
3. When reporting to China, please submit the following;
a. Invitation letter;
b. Self-introduction in Chinese (digital, if there is) together with video clips;
c. Speech manuscript (digital);
d. 2 copies of the vocal accompaniment, video materials, background music needed for
your performance. Please submit them using a flash drive or external storage device;
4. For the competition in China:
a. After the organizing committee received your receipt and other materials (Attachments
1 and 2), the staff will contact you through e-mail for the booking of the roundtrip
ticket. Please check your email and reply promptly. It is recommended to provide your
WeChat account to the organizing committee as soon as possible, so that they can
contact you in a timely and promptly manner.
b. For any inquiries about any specific form of the competition in China, please login to the
official app or website.
5. The intellectual property rights and publishing rights of the works submitted by you and any
results and derivatives formed in the competition (also referred to as "competition results")
belong to HANBAN (headquarters of Confucius Institute); HANBAN has the right to republish and
produce copies of the results of the competition.
6. During your stay in China, you shall abide by the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of
China, the arrangements of the Organizing Committee, and the rules of the competition. The
Organizing Committee reserves the right to pursue economic compensation from the
participants who withdraw from the competition, delay their return to China or interfere with
the order of the competition due to the incorrect submission of information or other improper
acts.
7. Please keep yourself updated with the latest developments through the official App and website
(http://bridge.chinese.cn).
