Important comments
- The scholars agree that the names of the surahs are Tawqeefiyyah which means they were
given to them based on revelation.

- There are some surahs which were given more than one name by the Prophet.

Example:

1- Al-Fatihah ‫ ا ْﻝﻔﺎﺘِ َﺤﺔ‬was called: Umm Al-Quran ‫م اْﻝﻘُْرآن‬ ُ‫( أ‬Mother of the Qur’aan) and As-Sab3u-l-
Mathaanee ‫ﺒﻊُ ا ْﻝ َﻤﺜﺎﻨِﻲ‬ْ ‫( اﻝﺴ‬The Seven Repeatedly Recited)
2- At-Taubah ‫ ْوَﺒﺔ‬‫اﻝﺘ‬: it is also called Baraa’ah ‫اءة‬
َ ‫( َﺒر‬Freedom From All Obligations)

3- Al-Israa’ ِ : it is also called Banee Isra’eel ‫( َﺒﻨِﻲ ِإ ْﺴراﺌِﻴل‬Sons of Israel)
