At the end of the lesson at least 85% of the students shall have:
a. Identify and recognize the musical characteristics of songs from Palawan
b. Understand and analyze the musical compositions and instrument of Palawan
c. Actively participated in group activities.

Since we have discussed about the music of
mindoro, I have here a box, inside of this are
piece of papers. I will play a music, while the
music is playing you have to pass it to the next
person beside you and once the music stops, the
last person who is holding the box will pick a
piece of paper and read if what is written on the
paper.

Presentation of the Lesson
Before we formally begin our lesson, let’s
find out if you know something about Palawan.

--- And also it is the largest province in the
country in terms of total area of jurisdiction.

country.

The Indigenous Groups from Palawan:
1. Batak- which means "mountain people" in
Cuyonon is a group of indigenous
Filipino people that resides in the
northeast portion of Palawan.
2. Palaweños - Native-born lowland dwellers –
They are religious, disciplined and have
a highly developed community spirit.
-Language: Cuyonon & Agutaynen.
3. Palawano - also known as Palawan, is one of
the unique indigenous peoples of
Palawan. They are part of the large
Manobo-based linguistic groups of
southern Philippines. They traditionally
hunt using soars and bamboo blowguns.
- The Taawt Bato means "people of the
rock".
found in central and northern Palawan.
Central Tagbanwas are found in the
western and eastern coastal areas of
central Palawan. They are concentrated
in the municipalities of Aborlan,
Quezon, and Puerto Princesa.
Musical Characteristics
 Sounds of nature is important to the
people of Palawan
1. chirping of birds
2. sounds of insects
3. sounds of the wind and rain
 Their music imitates the sounds of
animals
 Makes use of different musical forms
like repetitions and syncopations.
Vocal Music of Palawan
1. Tultul (epic chant)
 It is chanted vocal music about
epic heroes and usually chanted
at night, ending at daybreak.
2. Ulit (Shamanic chant)
  The shaman sings the difficult
experience of the voyage of his
double, kuruduwa, by a specific
chant, the lumbaga, whose
melody is in all points
assimilable to any epic melodic
line.
3. Kulial (songs)
 It is a lyrical poem expressing
love.
 His/her vocal music is
accompanied by Kudyapi (two-
stringed lute0 and played by man
and pagang (bamboo zither)
played by woman.
