RECOMMENDED ACTION

Tunnel Thruster Oil Distribution Upgrade

This service letter is issued to inform customer that a new improved Oil Distribution Box is available for the
controllable pitch propeller version of the KONGSBERG TT tunnel thruster product range.

Details
The upgrade is intended to further increase the service and operation performance in addition to the reliability
of our TT tunnel thruster product family through a more robust and wear resistance design. The upgrade will
reduce the equipment maintenance cost as it improves the service life of the system and reduces the risk of
unplanned maintenance work. The Oil Distribution Box is a critical functional sub-system, and this reliability
upgrade is recommended to all sailing vessels. The new design incorporates two preloaded roller bearings and
a more optimized internal geometry to reduce wear on the internal sealing faces and reduce internal oil leaks.

The upgrade is available as a retrofit solution and may be installed during dry dock of the vessel. The parts
needed for the upgrade are normally available from our warehouse stock, dependent on the total number of
requests and confirmed sales order, lead times for the upgrade may in some cases be approximately three

months from order. All TT tunnel thrusters delivered from the KONGSBERG Thruster Support Pool (TSP) are
delivered with this upgrade as a standard, as well as all delivered new build TT tunnel thrusters.

Recommended Action
To further improve the service and operating reliability of the KONGSBERG TT tunnel thrusters, it is
recommended to upgrade the current Oil Distribution Box to the new upgraded design as displayed in Figure 1.
