Giống như những động từ bất quy tắc, phần lớn các cụm động từ không tuân theo một nguyên tắc cố định
nào cả. Mặc dù những cụm động từ cùng chung một động từ chính có thể mang những ý nghĩa gần với nhau
và liên quan tới ý nghĩa của động từ chính, tuy nhiên, vẫn có những trường hợp ngoại lệ.
Vì thế, cách tốt nhất để học cụm động từ hiệu quả đó là học thuộc lòng. Tuy nhiên, thay vì học tràn lan, lẻ
tẻ, bạn có thể học hiệu quả hơn bằng cách tổng hợp, thống kê các cụm động từ theo một hệ thống dễ hiểu.
Cụ thể, bạn có thể tự làm một quyển “từ điển” nho nhỏ, phân theo bảng chữ cái ABC. Ví dụ, với chữ cái B,
bạn có các cụm động từ về Bring, Bear…Sau đó, bạn sẽ nhóm cáccụm động từ với Bring ở cạnh nhau. Như
vậy, mỗi lần ôn luyện, hay tìm kiếm, bạn có thể tìm kiếm theo danh mục bảng chữ cái, rất nhanh chóng và
tiện lợi.

Các ngữ động từ thường có nghĩa khác với nghĩa của các thành phần tạo nên chúng. Tuy
