Time Frame: 1 session

PLATE TECTONICS
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners internalize an understanding of:
 The relationship among the locations of volcanoes, earthquake
epicentres, and mountain ranges.
B. Performance The learners shall be able to:
Standards  Demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes,
and volcanic eruption; and
 Suggest ways by which he/she can contribute to government efforts in
reducing damage that is due to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
C. Learning The learners should be able to:
Competencies  Trace the places in the world where earthquakes commonly occur.
D. Specific Learning The learners should be able to:
Objectives  Explain the presence of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and
mountain ranges along plate boundaries.
 Describe formation and types of volcanoes.
 Demonstrate precautionary measures before, during, and after an
earthquake.
II. SKILLS TARGETED Listening, Understanding, Analyzing
III. LEARNING RESOURCES

 Bangon Batangas by Still One mp4
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Routine Prayer, Checking of Attendance
1. Elicit (5 mins.) Picture Analysis: 4 PICS 1 WORD
Ask learners to analyse the pictures. Let them guess what these pictures are trying
to portrait.

Answer: VOLCANO Answer: EARTHQUAKE

2. Engage (5 mins.) Ask learners if they have interest in watching news whenever a volcano shows
some alerts when it is about to erupt and an earthquake might occur.
Guide questions:
1. Why do you think we need to be aware if there is an upcoming
earthquake due to volcanic eruption?
2. What do they know about precautionary measures during volcanic
eruption and earthquake?
3. What government agency is responsible for issuing a warning signal?
3. Explore (15 mins) Divide the class into five groups. Let the learners perform activity and present
their work in the class after a given time. (See attached activity sheet for further
instruction.)
4. Explain  Let the learners present their group output in the class.
 The teacher will correct the misconception might happen during group
presentation.
5. Elaborate  Ask the learners how do these precautionary measures affect your classes?
 Ask the learners to give in a sentence of what they have learned in today’s
lesson?
6. Evaluate With not less than two sentences, do what is asked by the following:
1. Explain why we need to be familiarized with these precautionary
measures?
2. What is the message of the music video “Bangon Batangas” sang by Still
One?
7. Extend List down necessities you need to have on hand to cope with volcanic eruption
and earthquake problems?
V. AGREEMENT Bring the following on the next session:
1. a small shoebox
2. scissors
3. very fine sand
ACTIVITY SHEET: Are you prepared?

I. Objectives
1. Describe the early warning signals that PHIVOLCS uses in their bulletins and advisories.
2. Enumerate some precautionary measures before, during, and after volcanic eruption and earthquakes.

II. Procedure
 Groups 1 & 2: With your group, construct a strategic plan to ensure disaster preparedness for volcanic
eruption and earthquake by analyzing the pictures and complete the table below using manila papers.

 Group 1 – Describe early warning signals of volcanic activity and enumerate some precautionary
measures before, during, after volcanic eruption.

Before During After

 Group 2 – Enumerate some precautionary measures before, during, and after an earthquake.
Precautionary measures for Earthquake
Before During After

 Group 3: With your group, make a short skit about some precautionary measures for volcanic eruption.
 Group 4: With your group, make a short skit about some precautionary measures for earthquake.
 Group 5: With your group, make a short song that can enlighten the victims of Taal Volcano eruption.

III. Analysis:
1. Why do we need to always listen to advisories and obey the authorities? Explain your answers.
2. If you will ask to put together an emergency kit for use at home, what will you include?
