Mushroom Farming provides an alternative and

sustainable livelihood for those who are interested in
mushroom production. It does not require a wide area
for growing mushrooms. Mushroom Farming helps
in recycling agricultural waste and become a new source of income.
Mushrooms are rich in protein and a good alternative to meat.
Mushrooms are loaded with essential nutrients, when exposed to sunlight
produce Vit. D. Ergothioneine loaded, a form of amino acid that fights tumor
and cancer. Also an excellent source of Zinc, Iron, Potassium, Calcium,
Phosphorus, Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Niacin, Vit. B1 & B2.

Rando’s Mushroom Farm in Brgy. Tupol Central was born from the dire
need of Mr. Remus Jude Rando, an OFW from KSA to come home and stay. He
sees mushroom growing as a promising option for him to have steady source of
income. Agricultural waste such as rice straws, saw dust, cogon, mongo hulls
and banana leaves are abundant at his 1 hectare family owned farm. As he
says: Why not utilize it in promoting Mushroom Farming?
After establishing his Mushroom Farm, He actively participated on
Farmers Association of his Brgy. (TUCEFA) as well as in Organic Farmers
Practitioners Association of our town (COFPA). Eventually became our town
lone representative to Western Visayas Mushroom Farmers Association
(WVMFA).

Being an LGU employee, He is very supportive with our Municipal Mayor

Ronilo O. Caspe’s call to “Balik Uma- Its more fun to live in the farm of
Cabatuan”, our DA flagship project. In turn, our Mayor allowed him to undergo
trainings on Mushroom Processing and Product Development, Capability
Building & Training on Paddy Straw Mushroom Production Technology. Thus,
aside from selling fresh mushroom, they now value added their product by
selling Mushroom Shanghai, Burger Patties and Atchara when stocks are
abundant.

Thinking out of the box, Mr. Rando initiated an experimental Mushroom

Project dubbed “ Mushroom as Alternative Childrens Organization Livelihood”
MACOL in Bacan Elementary School with the partnership of the Federated PTA
of Cabatuan II.
Sir Ernell Cañega, BES Principal & Sir Val Santiago, PTA Fed. President
was ecstatic with the project, knowing that it will help the school with their aim
to be a role model in School based Organic Gardening Production & Practice
not just in our town but of the whole province.

Looking forward for a bright future of Mushroom Farming in Cabatuan,

knowing that many loves to consume it especially with our “laswa” & “ginisa”,
Rando’s Mushroom Farm envision to influence our kasimanwa with these
categories: Diversified Farming and Turning Agricultural Waste into Food,
Environmental Help, Health Benefits and Option for OFW’s.

Lastly as Sir Alfonso Carmelo, MPDO Head would say: Organic foods
such as Mushroom is a Super Food, have higher nutritional value than
conventional food, and strengthen your immune system causing you to feel
healthier overall.
