Himalayan Outbound Program

IIM Indore 2019

Batch 1: Oct 18 to Oct 23

Batch 2: Oct 19 to Oct 24

Background
The Programme is a combination of trekking in the Himalayas along with challenging team
activities. In the outdoors trekkers are out of their comfort zones. They are forced to confront
situations and overcome challenges, usually every minute by the hour. Overcoming these
challenges as a team results in learning that no textbook or simulated situation can impart.

Methodology
Students are divided into teams and given limited resources to complete the challenge at hand.
The teams compete against each other in a real life setting through a series of activities and
games that focus on teamwork, cooperation and overall individual capacity building. Teams
with a positive attitude and skills in cooperation, creativity, time management and effective
communication usually emerge as winners.
Learning
The learning in this program is deep, often lifelong.

Participants get an understanding of what leadership actually implies. They learn that
teamwork in such settings requires a high order of cooperative skills. They learn to recognize
and utilize the talents of everyone in the team. Through the physicality of the trek they
discover that most personal limitations that they have are largely imagined. The resulting boost
in self confidence has direct implications on all aspects of their personal and professional lives.
